The information coming out is very confusing - air bags didn't deploy so speed was under 33 mph

On CNN they are saying that the Highway Patrol may, 'bring charges'....

So, you are reversing out of your own driveway at 2:00 am. You hit a fire hydrant and tree. You are driving a Cadillac SUV, but get hurt.

Am betting alcohol.

the report I read said there was speculation that he had his arm out the window so that might have got squished between car and hydrant and the pain of that caused him to put his foot down and then hit the tree.

I also thought it was odd that almost the 1st thing in a few of the reports online is about alcohol not being involved. Bit too defensive.

released with facial lacerations makes me think- hadn't put seatbelt on yet, hits someting, hits windscreen, knocked out. That could count as serious injury.

It took over 12 hours for it to hit the media after it happened, that's impressive.

Bet his sponsors aren't happy.

He may have just hit the accelerator accidentally instead of the brake. I have done that.

Doesn't need to be anything exciting, just an accident that luckily nobody was really hurt in.

If someone saw him just after it happened and he was unconcious and they phoned the press it wouldn't be surprising for them to report it as 'seriously injured'
All the reports were unconfirmed. Sounds like it might become a big story of nothing.

All really odd initally. Now really low down on the news front - no where near start of news. Looks like a bit of a non story. Surely not Sky News getting in too early and jumping the gun was it?

hula, the police in america initially reported it was a serious accident and it was that report that all the news agencies on this side of the pond initially picked up (and of course, by then he was in hospital and they didn't know how badly he was injured)

turns out to be a bit of a non story and sounds more like a domestic!

so basic gist of this seems to be

"wife hears rumours husband is having an affair, she confronts him after finding out, big argument ensues, either he leaves in a bad mood - or she kicks him out, he gets in car and in haste of getting away put foot on the wrong pedal and makes a bloody great hash of getting out of drive, he has cuts and bruises to be associated with such incidents"
