The aide who has escaped... she killed her boyfriend, why was she in an open prison? Do you not get put in proper full blown prisons for the pesky issue of taking a life any more?

mad isn't it, she was ordered to serve at least 12 years for his murder. not much is it

Could understand it if he'd run over her children drunk driving or something, but the poor sod refused to marry her. Not a bad choice tbh seeing as she is clearly not overly stable!

Usually you go down catagories when you are in the prison system (or up if you behave badly) until you are released.

Flame - even those convicted of serious crimes will serve time in an open prison towards the end of their sentence. This is to help them adjust to life after release, work and gain skills. They should be at low risk of absconding because they have a lot to gain - better life after release - from behaving well.

In this case I speculate that she's done a runner because she wants a baby. She was 35 when locked up, now 43, when she was scheduled for release she would be 47. The murder was morivated by furious rage that her boyfriend was dumping not marrying her - bet a baby was part of that plan. As I say it's speculation - maybe totally off the mark but I think her biological clock is at the bottom of this. There's just no point to it otherwise.

I think I'm just fairly appalled at the length of sentences for murder anyway. You take a life, you forfeit yours imo (NOT death penalty, but actual life in prison)

blimey, NL

so you reckon she is out there right this minute picking up men to steal their sperm ?

Rindercella · 24/11/2009 08:25

She was sentenced to 15 years in 2001, reduced to 12 years on appeal. So, she still has 4 years to serve of her sentence - it seems pretty inappropriate to me that she should be serving the final 4 years on her sentence in an open prison (one where she could just walk out and not come back).

Northernlurker · 24/11/2009 08:31

She may only have just been moved to the open prison and yes AF that is exactly what I think! But like I say it's all speculation. If I was looking for her, I'd be looking in every bar in London!

alwayslookingforanswers · 24/11/2009 08:37

news article says she was moved there in July this year.

Interesting theory NL.

She has a life sentence, but not life imprisonment. I guess this buggers up her parole chances in 2012 doesn't it?

JollyPirate · 24/11/2009 08:38

She has made a suicide attempt in recent weeks - my gut feeling is that she may attempt a further suicide.

She hasd everything to gain by toeing the line in an open prison - it makes no sense for her to abscond except with an ulterior motive such as suicide. Unless of course she's had another moment of madness and just gone over the wall because the opportunity was there.

alwayslookingforanswers · 24/11/2009 08:40

Jolly - where did you read that??

alwayslookingforanswers · 24/11/2009 08:49

ahh yes found it in the Telegraph. Suprised she was up to absconding at all 4 days after an OD with paracetomal - I still felt like shite 4 days later even though I'd been given the all clear and discharged from hospital 2 days after it.
