I think we've been wondering about that on mn for a bit. More than likely. Though changing the correspondent to someone close to the Conservatives makes sense, I guess.

Bloody Voldemort.

In Alistair Campbells The Blair Years he tells how the Blair posse went to Australia specially to meet Murdoch and get "approval" from him and for the News International groups support. So its fairly likely that Cameron has done exactly the same thing.

I would say it's a cert. although a bit rich of Mandelson to be bleating on about this when his own party brokered the exact same deal in '97

My memory of the Blair regime is wobbly - what was the trade?

I'm sure the conservatives are doing a deal over the BBC/internet stuff. That makes me unhappy.

The trade was red-carpet access, I think. Can't remember any policy deal?

Being on the winning side of course. Murdoch doesn't like backing losers etc.

Murdoch did deals with Labour at every election since 1997.

Labour also did deals with Virgin boss Branson (a labour donor )so he could buy up all the other cable companies ripping up the ruling that there could not be a monopoly on cable retailers and thus ending the price wars that kept cable prices low.

But Mandlesons dodgie deals going back through the years are far worse than anything the tories would/ could come up with i'm sure, just as mandleson released the story of Osbourn on the yacht with the Russian ( mandlesons friend) so it's the pot calling the kettle black.

It would be interesting to have details of what was traded, atlantis?
