But I don't understand - why didn't she just fold her buggy?

make more room for old folk DW

i told ya
its the cult of the family

It sounds as though the driver was an arse about it and that's the problem more than anything else, but there's really nothing newsworthy about a pushchair having to be taken off a bus, even in the rain. And having to do that is what makes you remember the bloody raincover and so on for next time.

Mind you, the woman in the article looks like she would die before wearing anything that smacked of 'rainwear'. So I can see how much more desperately awful it could be for her to have to get off a bus than anyone else.

I'll stop there, this is irritating me too much.

I did read the article and think why on earth would that woman want to travel on a peasant wagon

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 18:23

if you intend to take pram on bus.buy a pram that fits in allocated space. doh

if you buy a huge fucking tank.tough titty if it doesn't fit

she reads as ghastly harrumpher- "he should be reprimanded" LOL.the wee oik of a man,how very dare he

she needs her bumps felt for buying a pram she cant get on/off bus

and as for going to daily mail to complain.well that speaks volumes of her priorities

bad day?gosh yes tell the daily mail

theyoungvisiter · 10/11/2009 18:34

I have a P&T and it absolutely does fit in the luggage space of every London bus I've tried. Not elegantly, tis true, but it fits.

The only thing is I have to persuade someone to hold DS2 while I do it, otherwise he rolls around the aisle of the bus, but people are usually more than happy to help.

This is hardly news, it happens all the time. The only time it really annoys me is when the bus is empty, there is loads of space, you've waited ages for the bus and the bus driver still insists you fold it - we had a particular episode like his in Oxford (v baby unfriendly place I have found) where I was made to fold the buggy and as I had ds (7mo) in one arm and was folding it with the other the driver slammed on his brakes for no reason and we crashed into the seat in front - could have been a nasty accident. Drivers like that should be reprimanded imo. I haven't had such problems in London where we go on the buses all the time.

agingoth · 10/11/2009 18:46

have other London posters (SE) experienced the joy of seeing a half empty bus sail past you because you have a pram? Particularly if you are with pram-wielding friend. Critical pram mass scares hell out of bus drivers....sissies

Knickers0nMaHead · 10/11/2009 18:49

theyoungvisitor, no said a phil n teds wont fit. Im trying to work out what buggy she had.Surely a 19mo should be in a stroller anyway.

doingthelambethwalk · 10/11/2009 18:51

Don't understand the article really, how is it newsworthy?

It's normal not to be allowed in the gangway and to have to get off the bus or fold a buggy up for wheelchair users. It's not even as if her child was a newborn or something, he looks as if he could be held on a lap perfectly well. Also don't all buggies come with raincovers or at least pretty big hoods? And don't bus shelters tend to have roofs (the clue being in the name)?

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 18:52

if she is so lah-di-da and averse to rain why didnt she have a wee man drive her?

domesticslattern · 10/11/2009 19:20

What a ghastly woman. How on earth did she make the news, for something which happens every single day FGS.

I'd be interested to know what kind of buggy she had; bet it was an enormopram.

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 19:22

she has face like a skelped bahookie

foxinsocks · 10/11/2009 19:26

I go on that bus every now and then (to Waterloo)

It starts in West Hampstead so money on that being where she got on!

I mean ffs he's 19 months! Not like he can't stand up while she folds the sodding buggy.

Most parents in central London are v good about this tbh. I was on a packed 139 the other day and someone folded their buggy so more people could fit on.

foxinsocks · 10/11/2009 19:27

and lol at enormopram

NeedaNewName · 10/11/2009 19:37

Tis reasons like this (rude bus drivers - not me not wanting to walk int he rain) I bought a car.

I agree about folding the pushchair, but what about when you have a sleeping 4m old and several bags of shopping cos you thought it would be nice to pop to the shops rather than buy online (didn;t make that mistake again!)

TBH some of the other passengers were jsut as bad - rude, unhelpful and in a couple of cases downright nasty.

Also agree that its not really news, happens everyday youjust have to find a way around it.

foxinsocks · 10/11/2009 19:42

yeah but she had a pram that was too big for the pram bit!

who, in their right mind, knows they have to commute on london public transport and buys a monstrosity pram

HerBoomWhizzBangitude · 10/11/2009 19:43

Why doesn't she just buy a car?

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 19:50

if using bus you need a bus friendly pram.and accept you might not always get on bus

alwayslookingforanswers · 10/11/2009 19:51

". Also don't all buggies come with raincovers or at least pretty big hoods? And don't bus shelters tend to have roofs (the clue being in the name)?"

ermmm - no they don't - frequently have to buy them a extras. Also you're lucky if you find a bus shelter round here - generally just a bus stop sign .

I had a monster buggy as I usually walked everywhere and killed too many strollers . It was a pita on the rare occasions I h ad to use the bus though.

notnowbernard · 10/11/2009 19:51

This has happened to me loads... not sure why it's newsworthy?

I get irritated by the huge, off-road 3 wheeler things that take up all the space too

alwayslookingforanswers · 10/11/2009 19:53

no it doesn't say she had a pram that was too big for the pram bit - it says she had a pram that was too big to fit with another pram in the space.

That doesn't mean that hers on it's own wouldn't fit in there.

alwayslookingforanswers · 10/11/2009 19:54

ahhh yes notnow - that would have been me with my Quinny on the odd ocassion I got the bus .

foxinsocks · 10/11/2009 19:57

yes but I know that bus, and you can fit 2 normal buggies in there quite easily

both would have had to have been pretty big to not fit next to each other
