Really enjoyed that article - thanks for posting it.

Personally I would never consider homeschooling my child (for a variety of reasons). And also- the patenting style assumed in the article (AP) isn't my style. However, the idea- in the way it's described in the article- did fascinate me, & for the first time made- in my mind- the concept of homeschooling 'come to life' & seem like a viable option.

Of course one basic prerequisite is for the mother not to work. And not to work for years.

Or work from home in a way that is flexible (as I do, although sadly DD is in school now as DP was adamant she at least try it), or for the father to not work/work from home. I think that HE does involve lots of self-sacrifice on the part of the parents and is certainly not the easy option. HE families tend to value things like lots of family time, freedom, lack of timetables etc way, way above material things.

(sorry, meant the parenting style, not patenting obviously. Duh).

Callisto, would love to learn more about it, I'm very interested. I too work from home- part-time, so does my DP. But we haven't considered HE, as I said for various reasons.

What do others think? (or would this thread be placed more appropriately in 'education'?)

You may get more response over there - there is a Home Education section too. For more info just google 'home education' there is an absolute wealth of info out there.

Out of interest, why would you never consider it for you and your children?
