Can you use a car seat for an 11 month old baby when it has been in an accident without the baby in it?

I was always told that any car seat that had been in an accident should be replaced as there may be damage that you can't actually see. Wouldn't want to risk it.

This was the car that was stolen, cherith?

I would think that with no occupant in seat its straps wouldn't have been strained at all and it should be OK in another car, actually.

But have a look at the seats mentioned in this thread in case yours is one of the less safe ones, in which case you might want to buy a new one anyway.

I wouldn't cherith. The shell may well have had a slap in the accident

I wouldn't use it - you just never know and I woldn't feel conifdent in the seat's ability to protect my child anymore. Can't you claim on your insurance?

I was assuming the seat would have been properly strapped in but you're right, pixiefish, safer to replace.
