The flooding in Moray - I remember it last time, about 12 years ago

and I couldn't get to work.
I'm wondering if the same places are affected
here
First I knew about it last time round was when my mum rang about 7am and asked if we were oka nd I said yes why, she said that there was lots of flooding in Elgin, i pointed out that were actually in Lossiemouth and not Elgin and her reply was "well I thought it might have stretched all the way to Lossie"

I battled my way into Perth last night (to get some corned beef fgs) and the back roads were terrible.
The river is roaring like a jet and it is going to pour down any minute.

Moray has been hit very badly, Saltire. I thought they just finished new flood dykes there?

I'm not sure if they finished the dykes or not. I remember last time the big park in the middle was flooded and we came down Bishopmill in the car and the place was under water. Some of the people I was working with at the time were flooded out and one of them told me afterwards the mess was just awful

and Johnstone's of Elgin was badly hit as well

I didn't realise it was bad in Perth (or that you were near there, GO, its where I'm from!) - my Dad never mentioned it when I spoke to him last night and he is usually top on the weather front.

Saltire - my brother lived in Lossie when there were those floods before and Dad said exactly the same as your mum to him!

We are up in Nowheresville, Perthshire weegiemum and it was mental trying to drive last night, especially as my brakes were not working that well. Perth can sometimes get totally different weather to us.
The burns are in spate and the big river is that dark brown boiling sort of way. The rain has stopped but it is forecast as being heavy again later on this afternoon.

It's not as bad in Elgin and surrounds as last time I believe, so far anyway. But in Fochabers it's exactly the same place causing problems (instead of building a bridge to replace a ford, they put big concrete pipes to carry the water, then get all puzzled when they clog up with stuff )

Apparently the council knew at 8pm last night they were blocked with logs, and did nothing about it till 2am when they started evacuating people nearby.

DS1 bounced back into the house this morning because the school bus was cancelled because of the flooding around here (Aberdeenshire). It took me over an hour to get into work in Aberdeen as well. Some of the side roads were very flooded.

It looks pretty severe - was just on radio 4 news too. I see the heavy rain warnings expire at 1pm for the area. I know very little about the region - is it a case that flooding will further increase as water comes down from the hills or do you feel that the worst is over?

there'll be a lot more water coming down from the hills unfortunately and the flood defences are still appalling, even after last time.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everyone is ok.

Are sandbags available for those who need them? (sorry for the questions, just contrasting it with personal flooding experiences 'down here')

Spoke to my Granny this morning who lives in Hopeman, about 10 miles away from Elgin. She said it was terrible there! My auntie & uncle live in Lossie, Saltire. Wonder what it's like in Inverness - my parents live there and the River Ness is quite prone to bursting it's banks. Will give them a ring now. Hope everyone's OK

It is the most beautiful weather here now and the water has mostly gone from the roads. We passed masses of ruined fields today, barley, wheat and oats all flattened and useless.

I hope they are able to get back to their homes tonight, up in Moray. Bloody lazy councils.
It is not the first time that they let things slip and flood protections did not work. They are putting lives at risk with their complacency.
