"?An occasional paraffin candle and its emissions will not likely affect you,? said Amid Hamidi, the co-author of the study at South Carolina State University.

?But lighting many paraffin candles every day for years or lighting them frequently in an unventilated bathroom around a tub, for example, may cause problems.?

The study, published at American Chemical Society annual conference, involved burning the candles in a small chamber for around five hours and soaking up the chemicals released in charcoal"

TBF who is likely to light them every single day for years on end or have 5 hour baths?

It seems these days there is very little left that isn;t likely to cause some disease or cancer or something.

Summarised: paraffin wax bad, beeswax good.

I don't quite get the trend for smelly candles, myself. I quite fancied being a bit poncey with a Jo Malone here and there, but my DDs always complain that any wafting scents make them feel sick and give them headaches, so I've gone back to turning the (untrendy but do the job) lights on.
