gah convo moved on now I look like a twit

again

morningpaper · 14/08/2009 15:28

So let me summarise: Your husband can't be trusted

Would you like me to test this theory for you? I have some ideas that could work

stealthsquiggle · 14/08/2009 15:29

It would seem reasonable to me, Justine - you could perhaps disguise posting names, which would avoid most of the issues which people are concerned about, I would have thought.

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 15:29

I've told you before MP - he's all yours - it's the least you deserve.

Itsjustafleshwound · 14/08/2009 15:30

So more work for MN for no money so DM can sell more papers and keep lazy journos in shoes????

morningpaper · 14/08/2009 15:31

could you perhaps post him to me, to save on travelling costs?

stealthsquiggle · 14/08/2009 15:33

Not for nothing, I would have thought. Links / publicity in DM = more traffic on site = more advertising revenue = ability to keep the inhabitants of MN Towers in shoes as well, surely?

vonsudenfedhatespauldacre · 14/08/2009 15:33

More than just running it past them, I would hope, but a right of editorial veto. After all, there is no point in running it past them if they're not going to change it when asked.

I also think that there should be areas of the board which are off-limits (SN, miscarriage etc) and that the column should stick to debates (i.e. fake tan etc).

FWIW, I personally don't think that MN should have any dealings at all with any organisation which has such a vendetta against women, but I am aware that this might be more difficult. And that I am an arsey unreconstructed feminist. But I also believe that, as society is organised currently, one of the most important ethical statements that can be made is what you do with your money and your business.

Perhaos we can all collectively put our energies into working out a new business model for MN so that Justine can afford legal advice and doesn't have cosy up to the DM to drive traffic to the site...

Perhaps instead of a fee, you could ask for the line at the bottom: "The fee for this article was donated to Self-Confessed Muslim Lesbian Assylum Seekers" or something

chegirl · 14/08/2009 15:47

Isnt the answer to have a user name like Iamacunt or thedailymailisaloadoftoss?

BTW I may be slightly delirious due to being poorly (please stroke my hair) but I am finding this thread very confusing. So is the DM column going to be a regular thing then?

oopsagainandagain · 14/08/2009 15:49

Justine, are you saying that the Dm using this stuff may well be an infringement of your copyright, but you didn't know and didn't ask them to stop putting the column in place?

Cor, the plot thickens.

And what now?

I am heartned to read this- as I've been saying, this is bigger than MN itself- it is improtatnt for the internet community.
In the same way that the GF stuff was interesting to alot of places, not jsut a parenting website... as it was about law and internet and cpoyright too.

Fancy a test case, anyone?

(Daft punk, this is the point I'm making, nothing about m15 etc, just about who ownd words when they are on the internet- not if the bloke round the corner cna find out if my son pees in his potty..)

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 15:51

Oops: Justine, are you saying that the Dm using this stuff may well be an infringement of your copyright, but you didn't know and didn't ask them to stop putting the column in place?

Yes that's about the size of it - probably need to firm us the legal opinion before can say definitively though.

oopsagainandagain · 14/08/2009 15:55

and why are the threads upside down?

i'm confused...

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 16:01

Sorry?

Ahem - our new Terms of Use are up on the site. As suggested and agreed some time ago we now talk about non-exclusive copyright. Sorry for the delay!

ClaireDeLoon · 14/08/2009 16:07

What does non-exclusive copyright mean exactly? That it is OK for anyone to take the content from here?

oopsagainandagain · 14/08/2009 16:09

oh, i deregged but then wanted to come back for one more post- and didn't customise yet...

and what does this mean?
cut and pasted form the copyright bit

"By submitting User Content, you also grant us the right, but not the obligation to use your biographical information including, without limitation, your name and geographical location in connection with broadcast, print, online, or other use or publication of your User Content. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you waive any and all claims you may now or later have in any jurisdiction to so-called "moral rights" or rights of "droit moral" with respect to the User Content. "

does it mean you can print where we live?

Does this just apply to new posters, or new posts, or retrospectively?

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 16:10

It means you still retain copyright too afaik - ie we have shared copyright.
so if you chose to post the same thing somewhere else we cannot claim copyright.

quoteTHISyafuckers · 14/08/2009 16:10

I don't LIKe having swear words in my username, I've decided...

BitOfFun · 14/08/2009 16:11

Why don't the de-reggers hold their horses and wait and see for a little while? Something is going to be done by the look of it...

ClaireDeLoon · 14/08/2009 16:12

Ahh I see - I think.

quoteTHISyafuckers · 14/08/2009 16:12

farking hell, justine, does all that mean you own my soul?

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 16:13

Oops:
Erm (I didn't write/prepare this) - will find out!

JustineMumsnet · 14/08/2009 16:15

Probably quoteTHISyafuckers, is it worth anything?
