OP posts:
anyoldDMfucker · 15/08/2009 18:39

association with formula feeding company = bad
assocation with daily garbage = good

mind boggles

oopsagainandagain · 15/08/2009 18:43

yes, so far it was an employment thread and not too contentious.

Wait until they raidthe breasfeeding/bottle feeding boards.
Or the WOHM/SAHM stuff.

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 18:47

familiar names, witty banter, all alludes to MN being a safe space

it isn't

what is said on MN doesn't necessarily stay on MN

even at most basic level, posters say i told my dh about X,Y,Z post

however,a working collaboration relationship with DM,feels icky.a bitty seedy.

LilyOfTheMountain · 15/08/2009 18:51

' it feels like you are sitting with a few friends in Starbucks,'

lose that you lose it all

inded isnt that the point?

good post blossoming

anyoldDMfucker · 15/08/2009 18:52

SM a good point

Maybe that's what it is- there's adifference between being found out and sold out

Now I know MNHQ didn't allow this, but theior defence feels a bit like that
shrusgs

and i don't like vanilla

ah well we will see

I do hope MN makes the -possible-outcomes mroe obvious though: you know what the traffic's like ehre, 42 newbies tomorrow saying 'Hi i'm a newbie my username is janesmith and I ahte my Mil LOL'

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 18:54

Ooh, I wonder if the DM will turn up at the Christmas meet up to get some photos to go with their columns next year? [fun]

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 18:54

for me it's witty riposte, words on a screen.but i switch off and switch off

oopsagainandagain · 15/08/2009 18:56

and some people don't, scottismummy.
for some people it is the difference between them coping and not coping...

LilyOfTheMountain · 15/08/2009 18:56

MNHQ

how will the locked rooms work?

I get they will be invisible, but how is admission working- presumably anyone could just sign up and tehy're in, to do with as they would wish?

Sorry, haven't encountered this before.

LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 18:57

But Riven, that has always always been the case - really nothing has changed. And it would be a shame if people felt they couldn't post on the site -it's just good to be aware that it is public! Which I think is sometimes forgotten tbh.

Those people citing risks etc, with the increased readership of the Daily Mail - it is 1 column a week, with maybe 4 or 5 posters quoted? How many threads are there per week on here? Must be in the thousands. How many posts made? Must be in the 10s of thousands. So numerically risk hasn't increased much. It's the perception of the 'risk' that has changed.

oopsagainandagain · 15/08/2009 19:02

butJustine has stated they want more papers to use MN and she'd like more of this,
So it won't just stop at 1 column a week, will it?

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 19:02

Lily, you really don't understand risk do you?
It is to do with the exposure not the number of posts. As I have said, it is great that nothing has changed for you but you really need to accept that it has chnaged for other people.

Riven seems to be saying that she was ok with the level of publicity on here before, now she is not - the same as others. The risk has changed so peoples decisions change along with that. I think it will be a shame not to be able to use MN the way we did. SN is a particularly strong example but there are plenty of other areas that it could have a similar impact on

oopsagainandagain · 15/08/2009 19:03

oh, i'm sure she said that earlier on this thread- my head is hurting

I'll change that to I belive she said they'd like more of this.....

Ooh yes Riven, far more appropriate!

Greensleeves · 15/08/2009 19:04

cos fuck all ever happens on Nethuns

oopsagainandagain · 15/08/2009 19:04

this week on the very broing techy forum that my Dh is on???

anyoldDMfucker · 15/08/2009 19:05

no its basic risk assessment some people on mumsnet are more stupid than i thought if they cant work it out

SoupDragon · 15/08/2009 19:07

I think 'this week in nethuns' is in Hello! magazine.

SoupDragon · 15/08/2009 19:09

I don't think the actual level of risk/publicity has changed at all, it's just more obvious now. You were at just as much risk of being quoted by a journalist before, some simply didn't realise it. Now they do.

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 19:11

I think it was more of an "if it had been certain other papers we would have welcomed it no matter how much you all bleated"

So is someone starting a new thread?

Perhaps someone would liek to do a round up of the things that have already been said to post at the begining of the thread?

anyoldDMfucker · 15/08/2009 19:12

of course its changed if its a regular weekly thing with a big MUMSNET in the title of the article

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 19:12

maybe some will preen and start jostling for DM notoriety. vicarious thrill of being quoted
