Here. I must have watched Pretty In Pink at least 10 times. And I was obsessed with The Breakfast Club for a while.

sad

Momino · 07/08/2009 07:30

just heard the news. very sad, his films epitomised the 1980s for my high school years. RIP.

GrapefruitMoon · 07/08/2009 08:13

He wrote & produced "Some Kind of Wonderful" which I loved when I was younger - must watch it again sometime...

flier · 07/08/2009 08:17

sad. Pretty in pink is one of my favourite ever films.

shootfromthehip · 07/08/2009 08:32

Oh dear, Pretty in Pink made me ache. My inner teenager still has a quiet sod whenever I think about that movie.

RustyBear · 07/08/2009 08:36

Your inner teenager does what?

retiredgoth2 · 07/08/2009 08:38

I too, was and remain an admirer of the Brat Pack films.

...'tis Friday. So tonight I feel I shall watch Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club whilst drinking a toast or six to Mr Hughes.

weegiemum · 07/08/2009 08:39

That's sad, he was so young.

Pretty In Pink is one of my faves too!

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 07/08/2009 08:42

Ah, that's sad. I started watching Two and A Half Men recently with Jon Cryer, which led me to watch Pretty In Pink again and I still loved it, even though I am a 34 year old who will never again be asked to a dance.

SixtyFootDoll · 07/08/2009 08:43

God Prett in Pink was my seminal teenage film.
I wasnted to be Molly Ringwald.
Didnt he do Ferris beullers Day off too?

Hassled · 07/08/2009 08:49

I hadn't realised that he wrote Home Alone - I love that film. Even though I know exactly what will happen I still laugh like a drain - and I've never seen DS3 laugh as much as he did the first time he watched it.

I've just been reading this, how sad, he was very young.

sayanything · 07/08/2009 09:24

How sad. Perhaps a John Hughes DVD-fest is in order tonight, to remember his works and my youth. I think I still have Pretty in Pink on video tape. And Ferris Bueler was just magnificent. "Anyone? Anyone?"

stiginthedumps · 07/08/2009 09:27

Heopfully they will have some of them on Sky as I only have Ferris Bueller on DVD. Love his films.

LuluMaman · 07/08/2009 09:32

so young too

how sad

Ferris Bueller's Day off is one of my all time favourites, me and my sister knew it off by heart !

and pretty in pink.. the start of my crush on james spader

bruffin · 07/08/2009 09:41

Last night I decided to introduce DS 13 to Ferris Bueller, didn't know he had died.

stiginthedumps · 07/08/2009 09:52

I also have a thing for James Spader!

Momino · 07/08/2009 10:13

also realised he did 'Mr Mom' with Michael Keaton. Has anyone seen this? Such a funny film but I can't find it over here, maybe it wasn't shown in the UK ?

TwoIfBySea · 07/08/2009 21:40

Some Kind of Wonderful was brilliant, as was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I spent my teenage years quoting those films and wishing I lived in his version of the US!

Meglet · 07/08/2009 21:44

Ferris Bueller is my favourite film. However I was banned from naming ds ferris .

EachPeachPearMum · 07/08/2009 22:45

I love so many of his films
