that is sad, poor family

Callisto · 15/07/2009 16:16

Very, very sad. I wonder if the strain of pregnancy and childbirth exacerbated the cancer? I know how much pregnancy took out of me and I'm nearly half her age.

CarGirl · 15/07/2009 16:19

sadly if you get cancer when you're pregnant your basically stuffed, the cancer cells multiply rapidly feeding off the pregnancy hormones or so I've been told.

It was one of my irrational fears when pregnant!

CMOTdibbler · 15/07/2009 16:21

Cargirl - that isn't true as a generality. Some very specific types can be affected by hormones, but they are in the minority

CarGirl · 15/07/2009 16:26

really, that's good news. I suppose the other dilema that not all option of treatment are open to you when you're pregnant.

blametheparents · 15/07/2009 16:31

How sad

CMOTdibbler · 15/07/2009 16:31

No, thats very true. Although depending on the cancer site, it is possible to use surgery or radiotherapy (I treated a few pregnant ladies in my old job) during pregnancy.

morningpaper · 15/07/2009 16:32

very sad indeed

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 15/07/2009 16:40

That is very sad. Hopefully the twins have lots of family around them to care for them and bring them up.

TheChilliMooseisOnTheLoose · 15/07/2009 16:43

How sad that any child should be left without a mother.
66 is too old to have had children IMO, although, of course, she could have got cancer at any age.

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 15/07/2009 16:47

So sad for the children

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 15/07/2009 16:54

That is just awful for the children.

I read about a 72 year old who is having IVF to have a child.

edam · 15/07/2009 17:10

poor boys. Hope they have close family who can care for them.
