I think you should ask what sort of parent allows small children to go and stay with a grown man....one's who see a quick buck to be made is my guess

Dp and I were talking about him at lunchtime, and I think the real tragedy is that if he were not the rich superstar, his quirks, foibles and generally accepted lunacy would have had him forced into psychiatric care at the very least and a lot of the madness need never have happened and he would probably still be here now, and a lot happier, dribbling on his cardy in some institution, out of harm to himself, or other's way.

mumblecrumble · 27/06/2009 16:43

Mozart was just as bonkers.... Wagner was an arsehole......

tiredsville · 27/06/2009 17:23

Thats depressing to hear Polanski getting a standing ovation after a guilty conviction.

monkeytrousers · 27/06/2009 19:14

They didn't cheer him as a child molester - that wasn't what the award was for.

monkeytrousers · 27/06/2009 19:17

"Think it's necessary to divorce the art from the artist."

Yez, in the case of unique artists like Jackson and Polanski. The myth is that just becasue these people didn't get publically humiliated, they got off scott free. If anything is plain, it's that this isn't true.

It is possible to recognise a unique talent and not condone crimes.

has anyone had the Popbitch email this week?

some of the jokes are vvvv

ilovemydogandmrobama · 27/06/2009 19:24

here's what I don't understand. His doctor was there when he collapsed, and did CPR for an hour before calling 911?

Even if one is medically trained, wouldn't you want your patient in hospital where there are better facilities? Then again, suppose we don't know that MJ didn't have a full medical unit in the house?

Ninkynork · 27/06/2009 19:30

I am starting to think that even if the sleeping arrangements were "innocent", that it still constitutes a form of abuse. These were not little children, it's not like my toddler DS cuddling up to me or DH when he is ill is it?

MJ may well have been operating at boy level but he just wasn't, and older children tend to find adults and their bodies strange and a bit gross. Particularly non-familiar ones; and this was Michael Jackson after all. I'd be uncomfortable being in the same room with him during daylight hours tbh.

Whether the perpetrator of this abuse was Michael himself or the shockingly neglectful star-struck and / or money-grabbing parents is something I'm not sure about.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/06/2009 19:32

I think the hour to try and revive him was in hospital.

Of course I would have Dittany! You wouldn't expect me to do anything else would you?

Reading about Polanski, I also came across 'Hollywood, a place where child rapists are applauded and anti war comments (Moore) are inappropriate' how spot on.

Ninkynork · 27/06/2009 21:55

I think it's a bit of a Hollywood tradition, that. Mentioned fictionally in The Godfather and several other novels dealing with the Golden Age
