Hogan released from Jail

The newspapers are reporting that the father who threw his two children from a hotel balcony and then jumped afterwards, killing his son, has been freed to return to england.

As he has no criminal charges against him he is now free to pursue residence/ contact with daughter Mia who survived.

The cps have yet to agree to retry him in this country.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Here is a link to the story, I simply cannot imagine what the family is going through today. atlantis, I agree. There are levels of wrongness that don't even names, yet.

I feel so sorry for the surviving child and her mother.

From what I've read, he is 'keen' to commence contact. THe child's mother is (understandably) horrified by the thought.

I fail to understand how (under whatever mental state) you can kill and not have a criminal record. What he did was no accident.

I don't think I would be able to forgive him.

violethill · 29/05/2009 18:48

I wasn't aware he was in jail. I thought he was in a psychiatric hospital.

NationalFlight · 29/05/2009 18:55

Oh sweet Jesus.

That poor mother.

tiredemma · 29/05/2009 19:03

He wasn't in jail was he?

Shock

He was detained in a psychiatric unit. Because the court held he had suffered from a moment of psychosis - a moment long enough to get two small children onto the balcony, hoist them over the rail and launch them to their deaths, four floors below.

For killing his son, and doing his level best to kill his daughter, he was sentenced to a pathetic three years. And now he's out in 16 months.

Whole thing is disgraceful. You have to suspect that the whole case turns on misogyny - that he is being excused because he is a man. And the idea that a woman might dare to leave her husband is so outrageous that he is entitled to fly into a murderous rage and kill his children. Because hey, men are entitled to destroy their possessions, aren't they?

I do hope his ex-wife and daughter are kept safe from him, that he doesn't manage to track them down and that he stays the hell out of his daughter's life. He has no right at all to go anywhere near them. If he had any shame, he would never have tried to escape taking full responsibility for his crime. And he certainly wouldn't be trying to get out early.

nickytwotimes · 29/05/2009 19:59

Disgusting that he is out so soon.
COmpletely agree with edam's post.

FabulousBakerGirl · 29/05/2009 20:01

I feel for the mother, her new husband and her daughter.

He knew what he was doing. Just put on a good show in court imo.

NationalFlight · 29/05/2009 20:01

He's obviously barking. I don't know about remorse or whatever, if he's lost the plot that's all irrelevant really...he needs locking up somwehere, though for the sake of society and himself.

edam · 29/05/2009 20:03

(Am no expert on Greek legal system but it sounds similar to UK on the issue of sentencing people who kill but are found insane - they are criminals but are detained in a psychiatric unit. In this country it would be one of the special hospitals such as Broadmoor. Key difference is you don't just get to walk out of Broadmoor early because you cry a bit or claim you feel much better now.)

GypsyMoth · 29/05/2009 20:18

Thought the mother was emigrating to oz.

British law states he has pr for Mia, hence a legal right to seek access. I think indirect would be best form if any at al.
