A very avoidable death

Just read this article on maternal deaths in the Guardian.

It says that half a million women die every year across the world in, or as a result of, pregnancy and childbirth.

It mentions that International Day of the Midwife was in May (5th). So respect to all you midwives out there.

The article is so sad - how can this still be happening?

The article mentions post-partum haemhorrage which is grim, you can bleed out in a matter of minutes as the blood veseels to the pelvic area can be as big as your little finger. I was high risk for one & despite a normal vaginal birth it all went downhill very quickly but luckily I was in a hospital & they already had my blood type on standby. Without medical facilities up to a westernised standard PPH is still going to claim lives.
