ROFL at this comment -

"My mother's maiden name was Moody and she took my father's surname when she married missing the opportunity of becoming Mrs Moody Pratt. Therefore we were just a family of Pratts. I'm now married to a Wildman and have missed out on being a Moody Wildman Pratt." LOL

I did know of A.Wright marrying A.Payne and them both saying they could each have become "A. Wright - Payne"

I was at a wedding recently where a couple of guests couldn't find their (double-barrelled) names on the seating plan - turns out there were so many people on that particular table with double-barrelled names that the software for the seating plan couldn't fit them all on!

The wife, Frieda Rosemarie Thalheim, who has built up a dental practice under her own name, wants to keep that as part of her identity, while also linking herself formally to her new husband, Hans-Peter Kunz-Hallstein.

So that would make

Frieda Rosemarie Thalheim-Kunz-Hallstein

and

Hans-Peter Thalheim-Kunz-Hallstein

I bet they call their PFB Anna-Sophie

Ridiculous.

Double barrelled first names are quite popular in Germany. Lena-Sophie, Anna-Lena etc. But to combine that with a triple barreled surname is just silly.

Have to admit that I loathe double barrel names and think they've become a bit chav.

double barrel names (outside the gentry) always used to indicate illegitimacy.

MsHighwater · 13/05/2009 11:31

What I always wonder is what happens when one of the current generation of double barrellers has children with fellow double-barreller? Do their children have to have all four names in order to avoid appearances of patriarchal domination? What about the generation after that?

Monty Python might have got more right than they knew!
