Loved her, she was amazing! I didn't think The Women's Room could be bettered until I read Our Father. What a loss

Gosh, that seems unexpected - somehow thought she was a lot younger than 79. Loved The Women's Room - might have to buy Our Father as have never read that one.

will read Our Father then thanks Ninkynork

Hope you both enjoy it, it's a more modern, gripping and easier read but harrowing and true.

Our Father

Sounds a bit like an 80's bonkbuster and it's as entertaining as one but it does explore the issues you'd expect it to.

See whenever I hear Marilyn French's name now, I always think of the Abba lyric from that really odd song, 'The Day Before You Came', which has the line (or something like), "I must have read awhile; the latest one by Marilyn French, or something in that style".

I thought she'd have been younger than 79, too. Off to bed now, and as I'm not currently with a book, I might give The Women's Room a re-read (obviously, only after playing that Abba song).

not sure it is available in uk ninkynork

(slightly scared of subject matter)

I've picked it up in charity shops mainly PYBG. The subject matter is not too graphic or detailed, it's a tale of revenge and hope really but I was scared of it too initially.

The women come out on top eventually despite the abuser trying his best to divide and conquer them all his life. It's a satisfying ending I promise you.

'Her mothers daughter' is a book I read in my teens and have since read about a further four times... I remember feeling a sense of sisterhood and connection while reding it.. amazing author
