Gordon Brown's Nest egg - how do I get it for my dd?

Does anyone know how you get hold of the new £250 announced for babies in the Budget? Does it come automatically or do you have to register? After all, so much of our £ goes in tax, we might as well make sure we get anything back that's going!!

Details to follow further consultation, but basically the first accounts will not be available until 2005 (so children born from Spet 2002 look as if they might lose out on up to 3 year interest unless they tweak it somehow). One of the issues that still has to be resolved is how the moey actually gets from the government into the accounts, ie whether it will be paid to parents who then have to open the account, or whether you choose your account-provider and then they get the money on your child's behalf.

It's still all a bit of a mess I'm afraid.
