I don't get it!
As most of the lights are crossroads then you will still be stopping when someone in the other direction wants to go, and how do they decide who get the green light 'wave'

i am assuming it just goes in waves each way so that you get a longer run

always wondered why they didnt

Yes but I would always be the one stuck on teh red light watching all the other drivers gaily laughing as they speed off....

This happens now in Australia. Works fine.

I saw this.

What happens about pedestrians? If you are crossing the road and all the cars suddenly get the "green wave" you're a bit stuffed surely?

I guess it ties in with this other thing Boris wants to do where he is reducing the time pedestrians have to cross many roads, and pedestrains will get a countdown to tell them how long they have to get our of the road. According to the Times this rather scariliy means that "People used to having a certain time to cross at their local lights may suddenly find themselves halfway across the road as the traffic starts to move."

Fabbo.
