here

Boy finds phone and is arrested when he hands it in to police.

How can you be arrested for handing something in?

Any police/people who know about this around?

I just don't get it at all. Really boggled. And yes it was on the wright stuff this morning which is where I heard it, it's been playing on my mind a bit!

because he kept it until the next day instead of going straight to the police station and saying "I have just picked this up in the street outside" - theft by finding cos he held onto it overnight?

I'm just speculating.

I think it's bloody stupid. And I think the kid ought to make a complaint.

check the hecate's not dead thread for my latest outburst of insanity.

Shambolic · 02/04/2009 17:45

Not just me then...

It is utterly bizarre isn't it?

Seems you are nicked for random bizarre things and yet you can get off scott free with much worse things.

It is the Mail though. Doesn't sound like there's anything more to the story though, that's what people usually say about stuff like this...

Will they be removing the lad's DNA from the database?

Shambolic · 02/04/2009 17:55

Doubt it oldlady.

There's no theft because there was no intention to permanently deprive. This cannot be a serious charge.

Is it a late April Fool?

I don't know the area but having looked it up, I can only conclude that the message which the police are sending out is that this young man should have interrupted his birthday celebrations to wander around late at night to find the only police station out of 7 in the area which is open 24 hours!

Shambolic · 02/04/2009 19:20

I don't know pennies i wouldn't have thought so - I mean it's not very funny is it.

And hardly something the mail would joke about

I just totally and completely don't understand how this has happened. Incidents of this type are very rare but always reported and give the police a terrible name. That young man won't be going out of his way to do the right think again I suspect.
