Oh no, she was pregnant as well, omg, this is just so tragic.

tortoiseshell · 24/04/2005 18:22

They made me cry too www - reminded me of our beach holiday when ds was 1 - so totally unfair and needless.

Gwenick · 25/04/2005 13:23

I just found out she was pg too - how sad - really hope she and baby are going to be ok.

JanH · 25/04/2005 20:49

Something I read today mentioned that she had her money, phone etc in a backpack; makes me wonder if the knife blow was intended to cut the strap, but missed.

Would that make it worse or not...?

JoolsToo · 25/04/2005 20:50

how could it be worse? bastards!

sansouci · 25/04/2005 20:59

We can't seem to stop talking about this at home. Terrible! If I met the person who did it, I'd scratch his eyes out. Damn him to hell. Dh mentions moving back to the UK from time to time but with every horrific story that hits the news, I feel more and more frightened. Poor mum and poor ds. It's truly desperate.

handlemecarefully · 25/04/2005 21:24

What torment - to be permanently paralysed from the neck down; never to be able to hold / cuddle your son. Personally I would rather die. That poor woman and her family.

JoolsToo · 26/04/2005 12:19

have just heard on the news the sequence of events - she knew he was following her - he had a knife at her son's throat - he stabbed her in the neck and then threw her son, still inside the buggy on top of her.

some people don't deserve to breathe ....

Lizzylou · 26/04/2005 12:23

That is just too awful for words, for people like that, not wanting to cause huge controversy or anything, I think the death penalty is too good for them. That poor woman and that poor little boy...it makes me so sick.

TinyGang · 26/04/2005 12:23

Pure evil Poor, poor young woman - how she'll manage to live her life after this and paralysed too doesn't bear thinking about.

fastasleep · 26/04/2005 12:33

This news story really lingered in my mind I'm called Abigail and it just makes it somehow..weird. The poor woman and the fact that she was pregnant just like me (I still am though!).... As long as she's with her family and able to communicate they'll be able to find somesort of happiness at least.... why would anyone do that?! Must be a complete psycho.

I bet the news story scared my mum sh*tless if she was only half listening!

I just hope they catch him really. What a despicable crime. I am praying for a miracle for her and her family.

suedonim · 26/04/2005 12:42

She is one amazing woman. She gave the police all this info even though she is is in such a state. I hope they catch the perpertrator pdq.

dinosaur · 26/04/2005 12:44

Good God, how dreadful. I would be beside myself if somebody threatened one of the DSs.

NomDePlume · 26/04/2005 12:44

it's just so harrowing. The thought of someone holding a knife to DD's throat is just unimagnable, as a parent you would do anything.

WideWebWitch · 26/04/2005 12:44

Oh that bbc link made all the hairs on the back of my neck stand and end and now I'm crying. This is so awful, I hope they catch him. Poor, poor woman and family.

That photo in the article with her family really got to me..to see them smiling despite what that b*stard did. They are amazing.

Lizzylou · 26/04/2005 12:54

She is an amazingly brave woman and mother, hopefully her spirit will help her make a better recovery than is diagnosed....

jjash · 26/04/2005 12:55

She is such a survivor.Makes you so fearful though -this world is becoming so scary .Hope they catch this man and lock him up for ever .My heart goes out to the family -how brave and dignified they all are.

handlemecarefully · 26/04/2005 14:50

Is there anything that we can do for her and her family?

You just feel so impotent don't you...

handlemecarefully · 26/04/2005 14:53

But really - is there anything that anyone can think of that we can do collectively...other than sending cards c/o St George's hospital (which is precisely what I am about to do)

dinosaur · 26/04/2005 15:00

I don't know, handlemecarefully. Perhaps start campaigning against the violence that is generally handed out by men to women? I know it is in a different context, but I am always shocked by that statistic that two women a week are killed by their partners or ex-partners. I see that and what happened to Abigail as different aspects of the same phenomenon - violence against women.

hub2dee · 26/04/2005 15:59

Did anyone see a documentary last night - it was on tagging criminals so they can spend their 'sentence' at home with certain movement restrictions...

I didn't catch all of it, but they mentioned 75% of taggers go on to re-offend...

I'm sure some of the lads on it were carefully selected to be as unpleasant as possible, but they were a bunch of little sh*ts.

One of the things that perhaps can be done is reflection on / lobbying around punishing criminals for their activities.

I'm not suggesting prison is the be-all and end-all, but the juveniles who repeatedly offend just make leave me . Chances are Abigail's attacker has a string of convictions.

Useless bloody system ? Useless parents ? Uncaring society ?

It's a toughy to solve, that's for sure.
