OP posts:
FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 10:47

agree - either way it's a crap title - "lost mountain woman" - oh a woman that lives in the mountains - "lost mountain dwarf" - blimey them mythical creatures do exist and they live in the mountains.

bruxeur · 24/03/2009 10:47

Not if you want to reference Tolkien.

mshadowsnumber1fan · 24/03/2009 10:49

yanbu
it is up there with the newspapers article about a woman's downs son

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 10:50

actually just seen one of the comments on the story

"A dwarf lost in the mountains how does that happen.Gimli would not be impressed"

madwomanintheattic · 24/03/2009 11:01

i'm so sorry, but it's so awful i'm almost hysterical. i know that makes me a bad person but tbh it's the chihuahua that did it for me...

shootfromthehip · 24/03/2009 11:02

Oh good god.

HuwEdwards · 24/03/2009 11:04

But it's the SUN. That's what it does.

nickytwotimes · 24/03/2009 11:07

Yanbu, but it is not surprising from that rag.

Mumcentreplus · 24/03/2009 11:10

hahaha...but techincally she is a dwarf...she's under 4'10

MargotBeauregardesGavel · 24/03/2009 11:14

is that what defines a dwarf? I know a girl who is only about 4.11" but her proportions are normal. I'd know idea there was a height definition. Isn't it a genetic syndrome something like Anach* starts with that.

Anyway, the sun is a load of shit. A woman can't be a woman. she has to be a babe or a harridan or a dwarf or an amazonian or a mother or a whore or a ball-breaker. something, anything, which makes her easier to judge and criticise.

bruxeur · 24/03/2009 11:47

Would that be Rebekah Wade's Sun?

Tbh I think the sexism is unintentional, if not imagined. The man bites dog of the story is that a dwarf got lost in the mountains. And she owns a tiny dog.

The condition is achondroplasia, btw.

BitOfFun · 24/03/2009 11:55

I'm sorry, but that comment, "Why didn't she just ride her chihuahua to safety?"

PMSL

mshadowsnumber1fan · 24/03/2009 11:56

hilarious

Mumcentreplus · 24/03/2009 12:04

some people are in perfect proportion dwarfism is sometimes just a genetic trait in a family...not always caused by a defect

sorry to miss the point of this thread entirely by splitting hairs! but there is a difference between being very small (even under four foot ten) and being a dwarf.

People with achondroplasia have shorter limbs and fingers in relation to their bodies.

A person of 4 foot 10" is just small. A person with achondroplasia has a one in two chance of passing on the achondroplasia gene to their offspring. Whereas a person of four foot ten is just 'small' and will pass on genes for not being tall.

5inthebed · 24/03/2009 18:01

I read that story and thought it was a bit uncalled for, as are the comments at the bottom of it.
