They've pulled the article from their website, but this should link to it

So, kids behave like kids and get blasted for it in a national newspaper. And that's news?????

Crap, lazy, sensationalist reporting imho

Truly a new low from an already appalling 'newspaper'.

I'm sure the children of Express journos and readers don't have bebo pages, drink alcohol or swear, heaven forbid.

Disgusting and truly desperate 'reporting'.

Meglet · 12/03/2009 13:20

Wow! Teenagers being gobby and drunk!

AMumInScotland · 12/03/2009 13:20

That's disgusting. Why should they be expected to live their lives differently from other teenagers just because of what happened? Obviously, I'd rather 18 year olds didn't have blogs full of drink and sex, but the fact is many of them do and setting different standards because these particular ones were lucky enough to survive a tragedy is unfair.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/03/2009 13:21

Yes what a bizarre article. Why on earth should those young people have to carry the burden of behaving perfectly for the rest of their lives just because of what they went through as kids?

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 12/03/2009 13:24

Stupid article. Their behaving like normal teenagers bears no relevance to do with what happened to them. Ridiculous. Makes me sick.

Bramshott · 12/03/2009 13:24

Oh FFS!!!

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 12/03/2009 13:26

I do apologise for my appallingly constructed sentence.

smallorange · 12/03/2009 13:29

Don't read the Daily Express, it's a fucking comic.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 12/03/2009 13:33

what the fuck? so what are they saying? they should have died? they ought to lead blameless lives as thanks for not being killed? they owe people something?

OK, the behaviours are not great! But many MANY young people behave like this - I don't think they should, I think it's a big problem in society that needs to be tackled, but that's an argument for another day But to suggest that, somehow, being a survivor of Dunblane means you are required - and not others - to never swear, never drink, never behave badly - well, bloody stupid, imo. the 2 aren't related. They survived so they should be saints why? says who? because otherwise they don't deserve the gift of life?

When I opened that article, I thought I was going to read about desecration of graves, or ridiculing of those who died, or similar. THAT would have been worthy of reporting and general disgust.

GorgonsGin · 12/03/2009 13:34

So let me get this right - if you have been through a dreadful tragedy and some of your friends were killed, you have to live the rest of your life as a non-swearing, tea total paragon of virtue who represent the community.

the granny sounds a bit odd, being pleased that gawpers turn up at the cemetary

i also think that MSP was duped - she doesn't mention that they were Dunblane survivors in her quote. I bet she was asked to comment on "Scottish Youth drinking culture or something, shown a few photos and and felt she had to condemn teenage drinking.

Gorionine · 12/03/2009 13:37

I really did not get that article. It descibes quite a few young people I am aquinted to. Would they have prefered if the surviviors were now on AD and spent their life with psychiatrist? That would make people who cared and brought flowers at the time feel much better?

Why were the press looking at their web pages?

fryalot · 12/03/2009 15:05

I think it's pretty damn fab actually that they have grown up to be fairly obviously "normal" teenagers.

Twould be more worrying if they all were all saintly or never heard of.

OP posts:
beanieb · 12/03/2009 15:25

That is out of order, not least because they name the teenagers. How the fuck do they expect them to behave? Like nuns and saints!?

skramble · 12/03/2009 15:29

FFS from the headline I thought they had all turned up drunk to the graveyard or something, they are 18 so of course they are a far cry from the picture of them in P1,

Bloody evil paper gving their names too, they have done nothing that most normal teenagers have not done, I would be far more concerned if they all hung out in the graveyard wearing black sobbing everyday, let them move on FFS.

skramble · 12/03/2009 15:30

All a report like that can do is upset their parents and anger the kids who do not need the exposure.

I guess that the privacy laws for these people have been lifted now that they have turned 18, and the paper has dived straight it.

It is one of the most random loads of nonsense that I have ever read.

And to print their names and lenghty extracts from their blogs is pathetic and really rather nasty.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/03/2009 17:21

I would hope that the parents and the teens themselves are seeking legal advice. Why should they have any right to publish blog posts without permission just because they are involved in such a tragedy?

It certainly goes against any ethics I know as a writer . then it is the Express, so you have to expect such drivel.

georgiemum · 12/03/2009 17:25

Don't get it. Because you are 'news' (ie public property) one day you have to behave? Or be in mourning for the rest of your life because you were caught up in a tragedy? What was the point of this story exactly?

link not working. has it been pulled?

DizzySquonk · 12/03/2009 17:40

poopscoop - the link still works for me, but it does take a moment or so to load.

The paper have pulled it, but my link is to a cached copy of the article so should still be there.

DisasterArea · 12/03/2009 17:45

what a load of utter bollocking twattery.
