Shocking cartoon in Metro Monday March 9 - women don't care if their date is a serial rapist

Oh my god, I am unable to make any sense of this - in today's Metro, page 31, the This Life cartoon shows this:

Two women in a bar, one drinking wine, one says to the other: "I met him on the internet - he's not interested in football, games consoles, old cars or the history channel - who cares if he's a serial rapist?'

This is absolutely disgusting! Or am I missing the point here or something? It's on a page with horoscopes, puzzles and sudoku - a bit of lighthearted stuff, then a joke about serial rapists. Not funny. Or AIBU?

I've logged a complaint with the newspaper editor, I wonder if they'll have the gumption to explain how this slipped through and got into the newspaper?

Please feel free to tell me I'm experiencing a sense of humour bypass and showing unreasonableness, but I think I'm right here...

No idea. It's reprehensible to imply that women will happily date a serial rapist, the fact they even specify 'serial' rapist makes me despair.

I have asked them how this made it into the newspaper, so let's see what they come back with.

Not funny but thought provoking. Why do some women go for violent partners. Why do some women contact violent men in prison and want a relationship with them. It's not funny But there are pockets of females that get something back from these relationships, that they wouldn't get from a normal, apparently boring football, cars & TV cop shows. Maybe the cartoon is pointing out that some women love a drama! NOT all women some!

I've made the bed and thought about it (ex partners) Some men like a drama too.

i think it's satirical and don't think it's offensive. it's pretty much been done to death in aibu so don't really have much to add that hasn't been posted on it there.
