Personalised Graves

I have set up a petition which I am hoping some of you will sign, late last year in November I informed you about my newphew and niece who lost their baby after just one day, this week they are in the local paper here I will post again on here when its has been checked by the site I have set it up on, I am hoping to help anyway I can and would be grateful if you could/would add your signature which I will pass on to them asap.

It's all very difficult when you're dealing with people's grief. Our own council has run into trouble for trying to stop roadside 'tributes' which carry on far after the person has died (obviously, when a grieving relative starts putting flowers at the site where their loved one died it's hard to know when to stop doing it I suppose because of what that might symbolise). In my own very humble and personal opinion I cannot attribute a piece of stone or one particular site to a lost loved one and I think it focuses the grief as if it actually is the dead person. However, I can't condone it as I haven't lost a child (although I lost my mum in an accident) so don't know exactly how I'd feel. I think I can see both sides.

In what way was it out of keeping? I've read similar stories in the past. BTW cod, you do know that there are a bunch of mnetters trying to hug you on another thread, don't you? Sorry to hijack.

I am very sorry for your family's loss, but I have to say I agree with the council on this, I think it is important that a graveyard is a place of serenity and calm and reflection for all those who visit it. I also feel quite strongly that the place a body is buried is not the only focus to remember a loved one, maybe planting a tree or creating a garden or dedicating a park bench might be a good idea and less intrusive on other's grief.

Mud I don't mind that you can't sign the petition, each to their own, some like it simple some don't, I am doing what I can to ease their grief, and if putting 'tokens' on their babies grave helps them and their children then I am behind them 110%.
