www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1155609/Alert-tainted-meningitis-vaccine-60-000-dose-recal l-tests-uncover-bug.html

Thousands of doses of meningitis C vaccine were recalled last night after a contamination scare.

The alert was sounded after tests found traces of the bug Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause blood poisoning.

About 60,000 doses are being recalled, a third of which had already been delivered to GP surgeries and health clinics in the past month.

It is not yet known how many have been given to babies.

BBC news tonight said none thought to have gone to the UK

lowrib · 26/02/2009 03:45

Sorry I take it back, that was the impression I got from the news report, but the website actually says "there had been no reports of adverse reactions and it not believe children in the UK were at risk" and it has "been available in the UK since January 2009".

Story here

Oh dear.

ds2 is long overdue his vaccination. Not sure whether to go ahead now.

The batches involved with contamination were not in the UK but the UK ones have been recalled as a precaution. Your little one should be fine Flightattendant.

Yes they have gone out in the UK and whats more other articles say they don't know where they are, unless your GP knows about the story and check the batch number then you are at potential risk.

Your little one 'should' be fine. Should is not good enough when other countries are findoing deadly stains of bacterium in so called sterile vaccines. I would insist on more that a 'should'.

This is a monumnental 'cock up' and they know it because only the 'big' mistakes get broken by news stories.

Just think of the poor folks in eastern europe and in the third world who are still getting the less safe DTP and the live oral polio, even after our governments say its not good enough for our children, they still sell it cheap to the third world.

Did you know that they have also withdrawn a load of the HPV vaccine in Spain, because its causing so many health problems in those that have it.
