Awful pictures perhaps best not seen with fire sensitive children in the room (my son)

got relatives in melbourne but nearer to city so they ok. i think its really dreadfull i wld rather have snow and rain but to be honest this apocolyptic weather is worrying isnt it?

magicpudding · 09/02/2009 13:45

so very saddening, and on such a large scale...

rudd says $10mil will go into aid.. but it's going to take so much more to rebuild communities.

i can't believe the firebugs. what on earth possessed them?

that man in one of the bbc interviews who talks about playing golf with a 12 year old kid who just isn't here anymore. too sad for words.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 09/02/2009 13:58

Oh Magicpudding I heard him - I just welled up listening to that. Its all so dreadful. I find it so difficult - grew up there, and hearing the accents of my childhood speaking about such horrors doesn't seem to go together iykwim.

brightongirldownunder · 09/02/2009 14:07

Its scary over here. My dh was very close to one over the weekend near Wisemans ferry and I lost contact with him for 2 days.
Its just so sad. Started raining here tonight - hope thats stems it a bit in NSW.

Can't get my head round the idea of people starting it deliberately. How can they find any evidence to convict them if everything is burned up ? [ignorant emoticon]

Thunderduck · 09/02/2009 14:58

171 confirmed dead now. It's like something from a horror film.

I can't imagine seeing one's house burn down, your kid's school, seeing people on fire, not knowing if your friends and relatives are ok. It's beyond horrific.

DP is still waiting to hear from friends. He's so upset, he spent a year in Oz when he was a teen and has loved it and it's people ever since. The town where he stayed during that year was Kinglake.

He wants to fly over and volunteer, though I don't know what he'd do exactly. I hope this comes to an end soon.

MF my Father is near Geelong - he says they are fine, no fires near them

My family are in West Australia but all those suffering in the east are in my thoughts

It is tragic.

Do we know if the Aussie MNers are OK?
