There have been several posts on threads today following the news of Jade Goody's fight against cervical cancer.

The Good Morning doctor mentioned Claire's Message, a campaign by the family of a young woman who died from cervical cancer at a young age, to have the age that screening begins in the UK dropped to 18.

Thought some people may be interested.

Lightshines - do you think it would be worth putting this on Chat as well? Usually has more people posting/reading than here I think.

When was the age lowered?

I remember when I was a student being offered a smear test when I asked about going on the pill (I was about 19 then, am now 45)

I haven't read the link yet but surely any sexually active woman should be offered this even if she is under 18?

alicecrail · 04/02/2009 17:07

I am 24 and have had one dd. The doctors have refused until i am 25! I think its totally wrong. If something good comes out of Jade Goody's illness it will be better awareness in younger women

I'm 23 and have 2 dc and have been refused by 2 surgeries and the family planning clinic

They should have also gone with the MSD vaccine that covers more than one strain but the government went for the cost cutting Glaxo version, it's a fecking disgrace.

I found it quite odd when I moved to the UK that there was an age limit. In Australia you start getting from the age of 18 or when you first become sexually active. Anyone can be at risk of cancer and your age should be irrelevent when it comes to screening. I will do anything to lower the age
