RIP Mr Playmobil. Is it wrong that I am now imagining a little Playmobil funeral set?

Awwww - I shall have to tell all ds's Playmobil people. Norman the foreman will drink a toast to him in tea.

belgo · 03/02/2009 16:56

my dd1' hero

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 17:00

I just told ds, and told him Hans Beck was quite old and had retired. He asked "Did he still play with Playmobil though?"

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 17:01

If only he knew how much fun we've had with our Playmobil....

What a great invention.

ChippyMinton · 03/02/2009 17:08

I DS2 has that peg-legged pirate he is holding in the pic. We will re-name him Cap'n Beck

Aefondkiss · 03/02/2009 17:24

playmobil is well loved in this house

inappropriate at playmobil funeral.

ChippyMinton · 03/02/2009 17:35

The sad thing is I can picture it perfectly. Chap in black with top hat & black ribbons, a horse drawn hearse, plastic coffin with working lid and removeable lining with body-shaped recess, wreath with flowers that fall off, roadsweeper with brush and shovel following behind ...

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 17:43

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if it gives the Playmobil designers an idea...

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 17:56

Norman and his mates are all standing around looking solemn now.

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 03/02/2009 18:31

Awww...

But yes, black carriage, black horses with plumage, optional hearse with slide out tray for coffin, plastic wreaths, black tophats on black-suited figures. I can definately picture the funeral...

stinkymonkey · 03/02/2009 18:38

Actually I am surprised they haven't produced a Playmobil corpse before. After all, they do a devil, a vulture, several criminals and many other figures that you don't usually find in toy version. Which is why we love it so.

Also their little hands are well-shaped for hauling coffin handles.

hey sobits i found evidence of your local police mis-behaving again!

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 03/02/2009 18:44

I have only just realised that the female playmobil figures have long hair and breasts
How long has that been going on??

And roffle re coffin-carrying-shaped hands. So true!!

georgiemum · 03/02/2009 18:45

I just have a horrible mental image of a Playmobil coffin and the undertakers taking a week to put it together.

verylapsedrunner · 03/02/2009 18:51

RIP ....Long live Playmobil

belgo · 03/02/2009 20:26

stinkymonkey, they do a playmobil skeleton, I will search a picture.

belgo · 03/02/2009 20:29

skeleton
they also do a vampire and ghost.

duckyfuzz · 03/02/2009 20:32

DH wants to know if he choked on a small piece of plastic...

madlentileater · 03/02/2009 20:33

what a shame.
but what a legacy!
Thanks Hans!

RiaParkinson · 03/02/2009 20:35

surprised at 2bn men worldwide

last count chez nous were 1.9 bn underfoot!

stinkymonkey · 03/02/2009 20:37

We have the skeleton!

I am talking about an actual rotting corpse. Bet they do it as a Halloween special. Playmobil zombies would be v popular.

Hassled · 03/02/2009 20:37

lol at DuckyFuzz's DH

The funeral set could also involve a wake scene with teeny bottles of whiskey etc.

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 20:50

Ooops! SEA - that looks about par for the course in our house! I wonder if poor old Hans ever knew what some of his creations got up to?

frecklyspeckly · 03/02/2009 22:06

We still have some of my brothers playmobil from the 1970's. It is amazingly durable and my children and my nieces still play with it. What a legacy Mr Playmobil has left though, how many millions of hours have been happily spent by children lost in the world of Playmobil ?

Gone to the great big plastic Playmobil building site/ airport/castle in the sky...

SoMuchToBits · 03/02/2009 23:25

I will be thinking of him tonight, while ds's Playmo-people are tucked up in their beds.
