cloned dog

I really cannot understand WHY amyone would go to these lengths.

I mean, seriously, WHY??

it isnt as if this new dog is going to be the old dog is it......it may look the same, but temperament and personality wise this will be a completely different dog, as anyone with identical twins/triplets will tell you.

I think it is all just a money making scam from god-complex scientist intent on reaping from grieving owners IMPO.

for the owners involved, at the scientist with this ability which surely goes beyond common sense. I mean, just because they CAN does NOT mean they SHOULD!.

More money than sense, methinks.

CaptainKarvol · 29/01/2009 11:48

Because they're barking, obviously....

psychomum5 · 29/01/2009 11:54

My first thought was why clone a Golden Retriever - they all look the same anyway . And as you say, the personality will be different.

CatIsSleepy · 29/01/2009 12:02

'We hope (he's the same as the original),' Ed, 79, added.

'But we do realize if he's different we're not going to love him any less.'

right
so why didn't they just go and buy another labrador.....?

duchesse · 29/01/2009 12:03

It's privately-funded research into a potentially ethically contentious issue. Genius funding system...

psychomum5 · 29/01/2009 12:49

duchesse........confused by your post (sorry).

do you mean that the way the scientists are charging for cloning is how they raise the money for research??

So how long is this pup going to live for? And if it dies too soon (as clones do apparently) are they going to clone the clone?

It is ridiculous, why didn't they go back to the breeder where they bought the original dog and get another pup. That way it would have been related rather than scientifically produced.

theyoungvisiter · 29/01/2009 13:59

If I were them I would be more worried about the fact that this man has already fibbed that he had created cloned human embryos.

What do you reckon - he spent weeks and weeks possibly fruitlessly trying to clone this wretched dog, OR he nipped off down the pet shop and found a rather good match for £500 and pocketed the rest of the cash?

donnie · 29/01/2009 15:02

"he was a human dog"

freaks, the pair of them. And their GM dog.

Soph73 · 29/01/2009 15:09

That made me LOL theyoungvisiter. Think you're right though.
