please don't come and tell me I'm a naive fool- I thought the speech was inspiring, if I was American I would feel proud. Congratulations to all US mumsnetters.

Nothing wrong with hope and optimism.

I'm sure there are other threads about this, but just wanted to say I agreed, his inauguration speech was powerful.

I also thought that if all ppl saw of it was the edited 'highlights' on the news it would be a pity, they wouldn't have got how momentous his speech was at all (poor editing BBCNews). Offering the hand of peace to all nations and the importance of personal duty and sacrifice were very strong messages.

The thing that impressed me was that he didn't seem to be reading his speech or even looking down at any notes.

I wondered if he was using a tele prompt but couldn't see anything. Makes a change from Bush who was incapable of stringing a few words together even when he was reading from a script!
