Amazing, isn't it? Chesley Sullenberger is a fantastic name - what a star.

mysterymoniker · 16/01/2009 08:39

that was a clever landing wasn't it! fantastic

rubyslippers · 16/01/2009 08:41

the pilot is a hero - so quick thinking

have heard on the news this morning that before he disembarked he checked the plane twice to ensure no-one was left on board

the crew were amazing too

belgo · 16/01/2009 08:44

wow. How absolutely terrifying. Thank God they all survived.

NotADragonOfSoup · 16/01/2009 12:46

I couldn't believe this when I heard it on the radio. The photos are amazing too - there was one where it looked like the people were walking on water.

What a fab pilot!

NotADragonOfSoup · 16/01/2009 12:46

He's actually Chesley Sullenberger III which is an even more fabulous name

IwishIwasamermaid · 16/01/2009 13:33

Wow, I think I'm a little bit in love with that pilot

What a hero!

The passengers must have been terrified, one of them said they were all very quiet and you could only hear people praying

And the people watching on the ground must have had their hearts in their mouth too.

Good on you Captain Sullenberger.

NewAmazingBeginning · 16/01/2009 13:57

He is amazing!

Hope it is proved to be a bird strike.

Well done that man!

BouncingTurtle · 16/01/2009 16:17

Apparently he was an ex-fighter pilot, hence the calm under fire!! When you have a look on Google Earth you'll see he only had seconds to make a decision where to bring his plane in and just how close he came to hitting a major population centre. If he hadn't ditch into the river it would have been carnage!!

What an incredible man he is - he even toured the plane twice to check there was no-one left on board then went and had a cup of coffee

I am in awe of this, didnt see the news last night, saw the pics in the papers in the work canteen and have been shocked and amazed ever since!
