what do we think about this one then?

You would think after the nazi thing he would've learnt his lesson no?

agree with policy, it doesn't say much for the benefits of a private education.

Although I do feel ever-so-slightly sorry for the poor lad that people are constantly questioning his paternity.

Clearly the private bit of my mixed state-and-private education didn't teach me how to avoid posting twice (my laptop is dead and dh's is just awkward).

Blu · 12/01/2009 15:09

I bet anything his mother would have been horrified to know that he referred to people as 'Paki'.

seeker · 12/01/2009 15:09

"It was clearly not meant in an offensive manner." That actually makes it worse! It shows he has a complete lack of awareness - as I said, the most expensive education money can buy and he knows less than my 7 and 13 year olds!

SaltireOShanter · 12/01/2009 15:15

edam - I count 3 posts

I have a feeling the private/public school establishments/aristocracy/royal family use these kinds of words all the time. I think they see it as 'political correctness gone mad'not to use them, rather than racism (their racist attitudes are too deep seated for them to actually see the problem).

I suspect the only thing Prince Harry will 'regret' will be the fact that it was made public and everyone's picking on him again. It's just soooo unfair being a Royal.

tiredsville · 12/01/2009 16:12

'Paki' was (and sometimes still is) a hate word which was use by skinheads to hurl abuse at anyone who looked remotely asian.
Lets face it, we don't associate the word Aussie bashing, Pomme bashing with hate and violence, unlike Paki bashing. There is no comparison

edam · 12/01/2009 16:51

Saltire - but the third was apologising for a double post!

BabyBaby123 · 12/01/2009 18:15

PoloPlayingMummy how can you say it was clearly not said in an offensive manner?? how on earth did you come to that conclusion? And PC brigade?? What planet are you on where you think this is acceptable in whatever way it was said?

georgiemum · 12/01/2009 18:18

He is an idiot. It must be great to have absolutely no responsibility at all.

I heard that his nickname it 'ginger c**t' so I assume the policy for officer nicknames is to have one that is as offensive as possible.

RiaParkinson · 12/01/2009 18:19

he is obviously not the brightest button in the box

SwedesInACape · 12/01/2009 19:21

Apparently he also said duing a conversation to the Queen which was also taped "I've got to go, Granny, give my love to the corgies. God save you."

bagsforlife · 12/01/2009 19:22

The fact is, unfortunately, the upper classes, royal family, public school brigade do not 'get' racism.

They don't understand the underlying patronising tone etc. They just think they are being 'jokey' and chums with the 'darkies' etc. Prince Harry will have seen it as being 'one of the lads', hence post from 'PoloPlayingMum' (the clues in the name). It will all get mixed up with people being overly 'politically correct' etc., whilst fundamentally missing the point.

They just do not understand and lap it up when the great British public takes umbrage. Don't know why I am even wasting my time posting on the subject it is so beyond their comprehension to even have a coherent argument about it.

agree with you bagsforlife. They just don't get it!!

Pan · 12/01/2009 19:44

again not so far from the truth.....

morningpaper · 12/01/2009 19:46

I do feel a bit sorry for Harry - he's a bit thick, everyone doubts his parentage, he's got a very boring future ahead of him, he's too dim to have a proper career, so he joins the army - which IS basically about killing people, so it's not surprising that soldiers aren't sitting around having group therapy and empathy sessions every day. Poor old Harry is unfortunately one of the most likely reasons that the monarchy will die out fairly soon...

cariboo · 12/01/2009 19:49

Media will kill the monarchy.

Pan · 12/01/2009 19:53

well here's hoping.

cariboo · 12/01/2009 19:58

Don't knock it! The tourists seem to love the monarchy...

NormaJeanBaker · 12/01/2009 20:03

This isn't the brightest family in the world. A lot of kids talk shite. And the army is full of this kind of banter - even the Royals might want to fit. I was at a wedding at the weekend and the groom worked with Harry in Afghanistan - apparently he had a load of grief about his family and ginger hair. Can't see any press about that. Did you see the bit of him taking the piss out of the queen pretending to phone her? Deary me what a horror he is. Most lads, especially in the forces, say this kind of stuff without the media attention this poor sod keeps attracting. It's not a life of privilege I'd choose for my son.

Don't think it's great in the context of the army hardly surprising. What a fuss about nothing. I suspect Harry does a lot more positive stuff than many blokes his age. Heard a bloke on the radio saying we should take to the streets to burn effigies of him. There's a nice balanced response.

Pan · 12/01/2009 20:09

and they'll love it even more when seen as an interesting historic artefact - much more romantic! and when the inhabitants of the wonderful palaces are now residing on difficult council estates somewhere near Walsall, a la Sue Townsends book.

cariboo · 12/01/2009 20:20

yes, alright Pan. Point taken.

When I lived in London about 30 yrs ago, kids were always saying, "just going to nip down to the Pakis". As a Canadian, I didn't understand it as being an insult, just a description.

That was then.
