Oh she makes my teeth itch. But to be fair to her, gettingup at 4am every day must play havoc with your relationships with people who keep rather more regular hours, and no amount of money can sort that out.

Extrapolating from her own unusual experience and minimalist cupboards to all women is ridiculous though.

aGalChangedHerName · 03/01/2009 00:02

Lol NorthernLurker, she obv didn't have very good "help" round the house then did she??

She has made an awful lot of money and been very priveleged IMO,and had moaned and groaned the whole way through it.

Lots of women have things a whole lot tougher than her and yet she complains about her lot in life!! Nobody forced her to do the fecking job did they?? Silly cow,i for one won't miss her.

flaminhell · 03/01/2009 00:14

Dislike the woman, has to be one of the worst interviewers I have ever seen, a smug self centered, arrogant and on the many occasions I have had the mis pleasure of listening to her inane rambling whilst trying to convince the entire population of the uk that she is any good, an ignorant prat, glad she has gone.

Bravo, good call, best thing she ever did was bugger off.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 03/01/2009 00:16

ahhh I see

if you're rich and famous you're not allowed to have a shit life - you must be happy with it at all times.

if you're poor and living day to day you are - and can moan as much as you want without any criticism

auntyspan · 03/01/2009 17:49

I find her very irritating but getting up at 4am would render me a ZOMBIE. Plus my father has dementia and I know what a massive strain the disease has on families, regardless of how much money you earn. Her mum has already passed away due to the illness and her father has just been diagnosed so I think she deserves some sympathy.

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 18:22

I cant open this, but am quite relieved as it is in the Daily Mail and I feel drawn to defend anyone the Daily Mail attacks.

Just because you are rich it does not mean you never have problems.

I am not rich by any means but earn an above average wage and it pisses me off that people I may have known in more diffiult times thing my life is one long cushy number

ahfeckit · 03/01/2009 18:27

I think some of us are cut out for working and looking after kids simultaneously, and some of us aren't (due to various reasons, some including health probs)- some of us are just meant to stay at home. I don't see that she's doing anything wrong by admitting she can't do it all. there are thousands out there who wish they could just walk away from their jobs and just stay at home with the kids..

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 18:30

I think giving up a stressful job an save your relationship and we all have tolerances to stress. I cant see what she has said that is making people so upset.

I agree with the point that both partners cannot have demanding careers and have a smooth home life. Does not need to be the woman who gives up the job though.
I can see how what she has said could be twisted to fit the DM agenda though.

Another uppity woman gives up on her ridiculous attempt to have it all....hurrah for sanity! Vote Winston Churchill!

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 18:36

But some people get stressed, tired easier than others.

I am one of those I have a dp who runs around after me and on the surface what looks like a lovely life and I know people roll their eyes a bit at me. But we never knonw what goes on behind closed doors.

It must be very hard to work those hours and maintain a family life, she is lucky that she can leave but she does not deserve such vitriol.

5gomad consider your hands smacked

I thought that was funny as well herbie, I think she wants to be the next Amanda Holden!

But is that much different to someone like me saying you cant have it all and leaving a management post in a "sink school" and taking a teaching post in an easier school. I suspect that like me she has thought about what needs to change and then dne exactly that,

ahfeckit · 03/01/2009 18:48

I think she gave it her best shot and like all of us, we all have a little moan about our lives at some point. it's only natural, being a parent is hard work whether you go out to work or stay at home (as a mother or father!). I am a bit saddened to see so many vicious comments about fiona philips really, we have no idea what getting up at that time is like and trying to keep all the pieces together around the hours she worked. we all have hard lives, but it's all relative. she may have thought she was hard done by, but to other jo bloggs who work pretty normal hours, and have to out of necessity may feel like she has no right to complain about her lovely life. who knows what's been going on behind closed doors...
i do agree very much with her comment about tiredness does make you see the darker side of things. I personally know that very well (constantly suffer from lethargy and tiredness, so no escape.

notnowplease · 03/01/2009 18:50

I agree money is irrelevant. My oldest closest friend is loaded (seriously so) and has all the trappings etc etc but her relationship and personal life is awful by her own admission and she is beyond stressed and sad i on the other hand am skint by her standards butam happy as a pig in * with my dh and dc

DumbledoresGirl · 03/01/2009 18:58

I don't understand the condemnation that is going on here. I don't know who Fiona Phillips is, but, reading the article, all I can see is a woman saying she gave up her job because she couldn't juggle it and her life as a mother and wife. What is so wrong with that? Plenty of people give up work or don't go back to work after having children for exactly the same reason. Not all of them are millionaires either.

Or have I missed some other point here?

If a magazine would pay me I would be , I have been in a TV programme saying that but noone was that interested.

ahfeckit · 03/01/2009 19:02

fiona philips was saying that in her opinion "women can't have it all''. I don't think she meant it to be a general statement to everyone. I can imagine she must be feeling deflated just now at how her life is unfolding. It's not an easy adjustment, not easy to admit to yourself let alone anyone else that you feel like a total failure that you can't do it all in life.

notnowplease · 03/01/2009 19:03

no one can have it all she is only saying what she feels its not a crime.Women do take on the world and then crumble under the stress of it all She is only holding her hands up saying it can't be done successfully in her opinion

ahfeckit · 03/01/2009 19:04

sadly some women can't have it all, and I think that;s what her comment really meant.some of us just cannot have it all in life. it just isn't going to happen. good on everyone else that copes great with everything, but sadly not everyone is capable of juggling the balls and keeping them high in the air effortlessly.

DumbledoresGirl · 03/01/2009 19:07

I personally don't believe anyone has it all. We all make choices and we all sacrifice something along the way. Are there really women or men out there who believe they have it all?
