story

The study by analyst TNS, which examined 27,500 people across 16 countries, found British housewives spend an average of 47 per cent of their 5.8 hours a day of spare time online. This was longer than their counterparts in any other country.

5.8 hrs a day of spare time?

TheCrackFox · 09/12/2008 16:20

Well, who would have thought? Another piece of misogynist clap-trap from the Daily Mail?

TBH, I am a SAHM and am not paid, so therefore don't have a boss, and I will do what I bloody well like all day.

5.8hrs spare time a day, I wish.

5.8hrs of spare time

Could it be that like me they log on and don't bother to log off so not really using the internet for all that time, but it is still connected?

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 09/12/2008 17:07

what but it's OK for men to sit in pubs hour after hour? How come no-one ever criticises what men do?

phraedd · 09/12/2008 17:13

where did they get the figure of 5.8 hours of free time?

I probably just about get that over the course of a week!

I would love to have that much free time to surf the net

scaredoflove · 09/12/2008 17:19

Why has this got backs up? it works out at just over 1.5 hours as an average, I have been known to spend virtually all day online

5.8 spare time is obviously an average, not saying all sahm's get that (I have done, when all the kids were at school)

why misogynist??

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 09/12/2008 17:20

I feel so guilty now that my 5.8 hours of internet use has been exposed that I'm going to give up going online.

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 09/12/2008 17:22

scaredoflove it's misogynistic because it refers only to women (housewives) who spend time online.

I mean, plenty of men spend hours and hours in the pub/fishing/playing football/pottering in the shed but no-one ever criticises them!!!!!! I don't understand it.

spookycharlotte121 · 09/12/2008 17:23

Lol..... well some days I spend most of the day on here in between playing with the kids, doing the dishes, washing clothes. My kids are not neglected, My house is semi tidy, we eat good meals and in the evening I do uni work so kiss my arse mr daily mail..... coz I spend longer on t'internet

spookycharlotte121 · 09/12/2008 17:24

Tee he he..... Im not a housewife either.... Im a scummy mummy

scaredoflove · 09/12/2008 18:02

but it isn't critisizing, its saying that in that study, british housewives surf the most

why is it wrong to say that?

stitch · 09/12/2008 18:04

only 47 percent?

TheCrackFox · 09/12/2008 18:21

The term "housewife" went out with the ark.
