How do they know it's £10 000? Will make a change from the usual Christmas jigsaw, though...

I don't know, an educated guess I suppose?

Yes, more boring than usual but with a whole lot more satisfaction at the end

I wonder what denominations it is as that will make a huge difference!

maybe they weighed it to guess how much was there? The banks weigh money now rather than counting, the lazy arses

how FAB!

It said shredded so I am guessing around 20 per note?

Many years ago, I did find a shredded £20 note on a pub table, crammed into the ashtray. So I gathered up the bits and put them in my bag, carefully sellotaped them together and presented myself at the nearest bank the next day with a made-up foot-shuffling story of how my Boyfwiend had torn up the note in a rage and was now ever so sowwy... The bank exchanged it for a crisp new £20 which I went out and spent on beer.

Cut to 5 years time, he'll have been driven completely barmy, huddled in a corner all jittery and shivering and repeating over and over "I know I can find a matching piece somewhere!!!!!"

how on earth can you tell which bit of serial number goes with which though? you would need a list or something wouldn't you?
