story

This is one of those 'please daddy no' type books which I've called 'Grief Porn' on here in the past.

I think it's interesting that the mother's lawyers say the author has to prove what she has written is the truth. I would have thought the publisher of the book would have needed that proof too, I guess that is why she is suing both! Massive mistake on the Publisher's behalf if they didn't get it!

I dont know ihave come across a mother who has colluded after daughter told them father was raping her and she found him crouched outside her room at midnight when she was 6.These mothers come from every background and class.

Poor woman.

We are going through this in our family. My lovely sil just told mil that stepfather has sexually assaulted her when 11. MIL left him.

But step brother in law hates us all and has cut us all out of his life as she won't go to the police and 'prove' it.

94% of abuse is unreported

Interview with Constance Briscoe after trial here.

part of the evidence in this case was a series of social services report detailing incidents against various siblings. So somebody's in denial...

LittleJingleBellas · 03/12/2008 20:47

Denial really is an extraordinarily powerful phenomenon isn't it? When I was young and ignorant and hadn't discovered the power of denial, I used to think along with many others, that Sonia Sutcliffe simply must have known what her husband was up to. But now I know it's perfectly possible for her to be utterly blinded by denial. Like Constance B's sisters.

Indeed - and the mother did have 11 children, so it stands to reason I suppose that they are going to act and think along disparate lines.

Given there were social services reports cataloguing abuse, I can only assume the mother and siblings were trying to make money out of this (had no win, no fee solicitors). It's one thing to be in denial but a huge step to go from that to stand up in court and tell lies.

I'm no fan of misery lit but since there is evidence the mother was abusive, I'm glad Briscoe won.
