Doesnt this sort of stink of hypercritism? when she said I wont comment until I speak to my 'agent' - was what she meant - I could make some money out of this - I know if every time I speak I have The Sun logo above my head I will bask in the glory?

Isnt talking about how rubbish RB is in bed stooping to the very level that we are accusing RB of? Will RBs granfather not have to read this article and will they not be upset? Sachs has been very dignified about the whole inccident though it has to be said.

"lolol that is hilarious

what a strange place to hang out for the pursuit of truth and beauty"

I don't think she mentioned either truth or beauty. She might find it interesting, though.

MP, it's unlike you to be so doggedly sneery.

You might disagree with some of us (me), but we're allowed to think about why we think certain things, aren't we? MendedKnee makes a good point - there aren't so many outlets for This Kind Of Thing when one has small children.
If this is all a bit sociology 101 I v much apologize, but needs must as the devil drives, as my (social-norms-enforcing) granny always said.

izyboy · 30/10/2008 21:15

Well I dont think asking a question about your favourite programme is wanky 'cos I genuinely wanted to know and you didnt answer. The threads are so interlinked I thought it was still a relevant query asked politely.

Not really, but I really would have a headache if I gave it as much indepth thought as you do.

Sometimes human relations and the culture in which they exist aren't as complex as you seem to want them to be.

Like I said, you can find anything if you look hard enough.

ScottishMummy · 30/10/2008 21:16

god forbid a bit of silly questions detract from your dichotomy of media-women-social representations^

oi no silly questions?

oh do lighten up

actually 3 big heided dysfuctional egotists getting all this mileage is quite silly

I thought you were referring to 3 posters then and wondered which ones they might be

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 21:19

Dittany it's edge because it's offensive - some comedy is like that. It's not WANKY to ask you what you think is 'suitable' comedy. I do think it is a leetle bit wanky to try deduce from Brand's comedy sketch whether or not he finds menstruation repellent and whether or not that makes him a misogynist and whether or not that is bad.

izyboy · 30/10/2008 21:20

Well no actually I wanted to engage with you because I was interested in where you come from humour-wise. But I guess I can see now why I didnt get an answer oh well.

Nothing wrong with being unique Dittany but I'll never know if your taste in humour is that way inclined.

mabanana · 30/10/2008 21:23

Oh fuck, so hard to keep away.
So Jim Davidson does 'cutting edge' comedy then?

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 21:23

I am sorry I offended you Mendedknee

mabana cutting edge comedy is about making the audience think and making them uncomfortable and pushing taboos in order to provoke thought and make points

I'm not awake of Jim Davidson doing that exactly although as a school girl in Paigton during the late 1980s I can verify that he may indeed have some misogynistic leanings

(because he performed there rather a lot, not because we spent lots of time analysing comedic routines)

mabanana · 30/10/2008 21:25

Sorry, 'edgy' comedy. Like Bernard Manning
Yeah, phoning up old people and laughing about having sex with their grandchildren is just so 'edgy'. And so funny. Hilarious. Who wouldn't find that funny? God, how humourless must I be to not be amused by laughing at a woman you had sex with, and ringing up members of her family to tell them about it.

Upwind · 30/10/2008 21:25

The BNP are offensive arses edgy comedians

No, I disagree, edgy comedy should at the very least be amusing

izyboy · 30/10/2008 21:27

Dont worry I'll be just fine - I'm sure I guess quite accurately from your posts.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 21:27

OK I admit defeat

I am worried that People On The Internet Are Still Wrong but I've really got to the write the Roundup

I promise it won't be edgy

mabanana · 30/10/2008 21:27

Well Jim Davidson pushes the 'taboos' against sneering at black people and homosexuals, surely? What 'taboos' did RB & JR break? The 'taboo' against ringing people up and leaving obscene messages about fucking their grandchildren?

skyatnight · 30/10/2008 21:28

I won't take off my coat but...

So edgy comedy is being offensive? (A 'wanky' argument if ever I read one.) Well I can be offensive if I set my mind to it so a new career in comedy beckons.

OneBat's divide and conquer argument makes absolute sense to me. It's what I've observed in my life.

Upwind · 30/10/2008 21:28

"cutting edge comedy is about making the audience think and making them uncomfortable and pushing taboos in order to provoke thought and make points"

Do you really think that Jonathan Ross does that?
