I was reading that

DS was very ill with herpes virus when he was 11 months old, the thought of it in a newborn is horrible

Peachy · 28/10/2008 09:37

Poor woman- I hope somebody ahs told her she didn't kill her child, a virus did

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/10/2008 09:43

OMG that poor family, there really is nothing else to say.

Upwind · 28/10/2008 09:43

How utterly awful. Since it was the mother's first ever coldsore I can't help wonder if she picked it up in the maternity unit?

Does anyone know whether antiseptec wipes and handgels provide any protection against virus's like this?

Upwind · 28/10/2008 09:44

I also never knew this, how awful for the parents.

I have never had a coldsore, and i never knew they could be so serious.

LaSpooky · 28/10/2008 10:28

Blimey. That's so shocking and so sad. I've just been feeling grumpy because my baby is a bad sleeper and now I couldn't give a monkeys. She can wake me as many times as she likes.

Is there anything else common like this we should know?

God thats horrible.

Poor, poor family.

I am constantly getting coldsores does tha mean anything for if i have anymore children?

MuAHAHAHAHAHmi · 28/10/2008 10:34

The kind of thing which sounds like it should be so rare but obviously isn't. There should be more awareness raised about this. How terribly sad

ClaireDeLoon · 28/10/2008 10:40

That's terrible, poor parents such a lovely baby

LaSpooky · 28/10/2008 15:11

Charlee - I think the problem was because the mother had never had a cold sore before and so had no immunity to pass to her baby during pregnancy or bf.

"you do not pass immunity to herpes viruses. "

even while breastfeeding? Because the article suggests otherwise

ShinyPinkPumpkin · 28/10/2008 15:19

How utterly tragic

Agree that the article suggested otherwise - not just breastfeeding but also during pregnancy.
