the guy on the Today programme from Swindon was v unconvincing

"But Swindon councillors decided the £320,000 it puts into the partnership would be better spent on other safety measures like warning signs and street lighting." Or even police traffic patrols which seem to be becoming a rare occurance around here.

HURRAH
i'm of the opinion that the wankers who zoom around and are most likely to crash ino you and maim you are the sorts of wankers that don't take a huge amount of notice of cameras anyway. and the sorts who zoom long then break heavly when a camera is spotted.
will be interesting to see if the death count in swindon suddenly rockets. the cameras havent been 'on' for many months anyway and it hasn't seemed to have mad much difference yet.

most people from swindon are unconvincing in some way ime but i don't hold that against them.

driver education is a laughable idea.

but what they haven't said on the national news is that one of the main reasons they are getting rid of the cameras is because all the revenue generated goes back into central government. So they spend £300k on implementing them, maintaining them, and they don't see a penny of the fines.

And while I agree that speeding is wrong, I can cind of see their motivation for wanting to spend the money elsewhere considering they gain nothing from it.

kind of...

I went on a Speed Awareness course on Monday. It was extremely enlightening and interesting. I think that is much more valuable than speed cameras, which people tend to just slow down for!

nappyaddict · 23/10/2008 13:46

mobile speed cameras are a much better idea. people just get to know where the fixed ones are and slow down then speed up again as soon as they have driven past them.

there was a good debating thread on this when top gear announced in their last series that this was going to happen.
I heard this morning and wondered if I was in a time loop
