is it unsisterly to think that Sarah Palin is horrid and the worst possible example of a woman in power

ok, I used to think that as women we ought to support other women to almost unreasonable levels. i was totally for Hillary despite Obama's star appeal.... but then came Sarah Palin. i abhor her and everything she stands for. i am incredibly disgusted by the level of PC that prevents people from stating the obvious, ie that she is an incredibly BAD mother and she gives women a bad name.. i mean WTF, going back to work after 3 DAYS of giving birth, exposing your pregnant 17 yo to national attentionand not being there for her while she needs you most... she keeps banging on about being a hockey mom but having delivered 5 children is not the same thing about being a good mum. she is also incredibly, scarily unqualified for the job. i cannot find one ounce of feminist feeling for her... and it makes me question my beliefs!

You can't teach creationism in Science lessons, by definition.

OMG, I did not think there were any REAL people who would support pro-life, pro-gun, pro-deathpenalty and pro-creation.

Let me get this right.....only a god can make life, a judge can take it away but hey, let's all carry guns but not use them for mortal injury.

Geez, it scares me.

Agree oneliein - I don't understand how a person can be in favour of the death penalty and 'pro-life' at the same time.

MKG - you can't teach evolution and creationism as if they are both theories of equal scientific validity because they simply aren't!

Sarah Palin scares me with all her talk of 'God's will'. I would be very worried interested to know her thoughts on Iran

UnquietDad · 07/09/2008 15:33

All the "Gawd's will" stuff is really scary. I don't see how anyone can believe that God is on anyone's "side" in a conflict.

And irony isn't used as an "excuse" for anything, at least not be me. It's something Sarah Palin probably doesn't get, for one thing.

One close election and one heartbeat away from the presidency...

cocolepew · 07/09/2008 15:35

Just to lower the intellectual discussion. Anyone, like me, who has spent a week trying to figure out who she looks like it's Dr Melfi in the Sopranos
As you were.

OneLieIn · 07/09/2008 15:50

She does look like Dr Melfi you are right!!

Oh how I miss the Sopranos.

Weren't they pro-gun too???

Monkeytrousers · 07/09/2008 16:49

If your a postmodernist the whole world and everything in it dissapears up it's own arsehole.

Monkeytrousers · 07/09/2008 16:51

Think you are taking this a bit too seriously Dittany

nooka · 07/09/2008 19:31

I think it is a little ridiculous to suggest that Obama had no scrutiny or negative press. Not to say that I think his change message necessarily stacks up, but then I don't think McCain's change message is other than utterly cynical either. Unfortunately that's how politics works though, and that's how messages are managed during elections. Hillary attracted lots of negative publicity, but she also had her fervent supporters. She was a very divisive candidate, but she still should have won, and something went very wrong with her campaign (and no I don't think that there was some great anti-women conspiracy). Obama's campaign also seems to have faded a bit. The only interesting thing that has happened since the end of the primaries is Sarah Palin's nomination (Biden just isn't that exciting).

I wouldn't deny that there isn't sexism going on too, but then there is agism and racism going on too. Politics at the personal level is always going to be at least a bit sleazy.

Believing that creationism should be taught alongside Darwin in schools is (non-gender-specific) dim.

Monkeytrousers · 07/09/2008 19:55

oh, i'm getting tired of SP now. I much prefer Rachel from bb

Bubble99 · 07/09/2008 20:05

I can't see a problem with both theories being taught in school. If she was gunning for only creationism I would have a problem.

Can't get my head around her anti-abortion stance, though. I can't understand how anyone would want a woman to be legally forced to act as a unwilling incubator to any unwanted pregnancy. Let alone whether the pregnancy was the result of rape.

As for the hunting and shooting thing. Well, at least she butchers and eats her kill. I have some respect for that - and I suspect, if she were Inuit(sp, and probably in the wrong part of the world, BYKWIM) no one would even comment.

BadZelda · 07/09/2008 20:08

Personally I'm not too bothered about how she chooses to run her family life, but I am VERY concerned about her stance on the environment...she is even more of a global warming denier than Bush.

Kewcumber · 07/09/2008 20:28

Pro-gun: why should that be taken away? Becasue it kills 1000's of innocent people a year - wouldn't you support at least a minimum national standerd for gun ownship with compulasory education on gun safety on the home to reduce deaths?

Pro-death penalty: some people commit crimes that they deserve to die for and some are just poor and black and aren't adequately legally represented. Some people feel uneasy about the imperfect state making a decision about who deserves to die.

Pro-creation: no problem with it being taught in religious studies and evolution being taught in science. They may both be theories but evolution has a better weight of evidence (hence science) creation more weight of belief (hence religion)

Pro-life: I have no problem with this either and my standpoint would allow every woman to make her up her own mind. Unfortunately if Pro-life principles becomes law every woman will not be able to make their own decisions.

Obviously my own humble European views (though interestingly it doesn't very much from American friends - are they fake aMERICANS?)

ByTheSea · 07/09/2008 20:50

I must be a fake American then, Kewcumber, as I share your humble European views (as do just about all of my American friends and family).

Monkeytrousers · 07/09/2008 21:31

PEDANT ALERT - to say something is a theory (in scientific terms) is not to say it isn't scientific fact, as evolution is. The term has entered the common vernacular with a slightly different nuance though which creatrionsist try (but fail) to sematically exploit

southeastastra · 07/09/2008 21:32

she is a nut

nooka · 07/09/2008 21:43

Maybe when everyone is playing Spore at home evolution will become accepted as how things work. I wonder if right wing nutters play computer games (I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!)

AtheneNoctua · 08/09/2008 08:45

Great posts Dittany. There are certainly a lot of horrible sexist statements on this thread, and I take them as confirmation that voting for McCain Palin is the right thing to do. (pardon the pun)

I'm not a fan of the pro life campaign. But, taken as a whole package I think the McCain Palin ticket is the better choice. I certainly support her desire to drill for oil in Alaska (unless of course you think people are fed up with energy bills which are just too darn cheap).

The pro-life thing bothers me... but not enough to for her to lose my vote.
