is it unsisterly to think that Sarah Palin is horrid and the worst possible example of a woman in power

ok, I used to think that as women we ought to support other women to almost unreasonable levels. i was totally for Hillary despite Obama's star appeal.... but then came Sarah Palin. i abhor her and everything she stands for. i am incredibly disgusted by the level of PC that prevents people from stating the obvious, ie that she is an incredibly BAD mother and she gives women a bad name.. i mean WTF, going back to work after 3 DAYS of giving birth, exposing your pregnant 17 yo to national attentionand not being there for her while she needs you most... she keeps banging on about being a hockey mom but having delivered 5 children is not the same thing about being a good mum. she is also incredibly, scarily unqualified for the job. i cannot find one ounce of feminist feeling for her... and it makes me question my beliefs!

...neither here nor there...

Not quite sure why being super experienced necessarily makes you more likely to do a better job. I can think of quite a few political veterans who haven't done such a great job of being president.

Heated · 06/09/2008 15:36

Given McCain's age & health scares it could be very pertinant who the VP is.

I would prefer an inexperienced, open-minded moderate over an experienced nut job any day.

wehaveallbeenthere · 06/09/2008 15:39

Bravo to you for bringing this subject to light.
Pointing out the obvious, she is unqualified. The Mac party pulled her out of a hat because they need voters. They are targeting the women voters and the NRA.
I am a woman, and a potential member of the NRA. It doesn't mean I agree with her or their ideals (completely) though.
Yes, she is a mother of 5, yes, she has a young baby. Does this mean her husband is going to leave her alone for the term if she gets the VP? What happens if she gets pregnant again? What happens if something happens to MaCain if she is pregnant? I can't see her being a good mother and doing this job requirements to the fullest.
Someone else will be raising her children, or doing the VP job. It just isn't humanly possible.
Okay, she uses guns. I'm not trying to be unsisterly but I think we all know that our hormones are whacked when we are pregnant. Would any of you (really) trust yourself with a gun in your hand while trying to get back to normal after a baby?
I'm just trying to show the obvious...I like the idea of women in power...sane, strong, experienced women. Equally with men. I don't feel she is the person for the job.

Maybe its sexism because I expect moreof a woman than I do of a man?

Oh, btw, I can hunt, and butcher too. I cannot fly a plane but raising my family has pretty much taken priority over that.
I find it interesting that she knows her 17 year old was dating/planning on marrying the young man that fathered her coming baby.
Pardon me for saying so, I realize that you can't keep your eyes on your children all the time but does this mean that she will be better equiped for keeping her eyes on the peoples needs? Sorry, I doubt it.
She needs to be preparing her young mother to be for what is coming. I see lots of women in marriages, some after, some before with children right here on this site that are having problems... is her 17 year old going to have her at her beck and call every time she needs her? What about the other four?
and no. I'm not trying to campaign for Obama or anyone else. I'm just saying that I don't think she is the best person for the job. I think they should have looked a little harder. How hard can it be to find a woman in politics that can hunt, or handle herself with good social and christian values?
I'm not saying Sarah Palin is a bad mother. I'm saying she needs to go home and work on that position.

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 15:47

"Does this mean her husband is going to leave her alone for the term if she gets the VP? What happens if she gets pregnant again?" So are you saying that all fertile women should be disbarred from office? This really cannot be your argument.

WaynettaSlob · 06/09/2008 15:48

Am not excusing her views, and am certainly not a Briton........

And I have to say that lacking though it was in policy and substance, her speech on Wednesday was the singularly most entertaining thing I've heard in the entire campaign so far.

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 15:50

"is her 17 year old going to have her at her beck and call every time she needs her? What about the other four?" Seriously - what do you mean by this? That women with children shouldn't hold office, but it's ok for the fathers of those children not to be "at their beck and call"?

UnquietDad · 06/09/2008 15:51

How she brings up her children is her own business. I'm more concerned by the fact that she is a crazy pistol-packin' elk-shootin' NRA-lovin' yee-hah gun-nut, not to mention a dimwit creationist who thinks it's Gaaaaaaaahd's Will that good ol' Merkin Boyz are in Eye-rack kickin' some butt. I'm sure Middle America will love her.

She's smokin' hot, mind. I would.

Some of you may find this funny. Apologies if you don't.

expatinscotland · 06/09/2008 15:52

My mother made the mistake of asking me what I thought of her last night.

I just said, 'I think she's a nutter.'

Because I do.

But they're running on a platform of (amongh other things) not outsourcing so many jobs, and using a carrot to try to achieve this. It's not an unpopular idea.

Heated · 06/09/2008 15:53

Clinton was a totally credible candidate, a shrewd woman and you just know she has brains. Whereas with SP, Bush Jr etc I can't quite decide whether they are scarily unsophisticated or whether it's part of their contrived 'charm'.

Heated · 06/09/2008 15:54

UD

wehaveallbeenthere · 06/09/2008 15:54

Sprogger, I'm in the US. I'm from Iowa...we hunt, we go to church, we raise children and believe it or not...we also watch who we put in office.
I'm almost 49. I know people in the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan and trust me, I have my opinion on that too. I've been married, and had children.
I wouldn't vote for MaCain (although I respect his war history) just because of his VP choice.
I live in Texas (it doesn't get much more rednecked than that) and I have my opinion of "the war on terrorism" and WOMD and I am still close enough to see the mess made of Katrina in NO. I spent a week there this summer.
Sorry to get off subject.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm sticking to mine.

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 15:56

Clinton's a really good example of the sexist coverage, mind - was it the Daily Show who did a round-up of the sexist coverage of her campaign? It was vile. I didn't like some of her "would you feel safe in your bed with this man in office" campaigning, but I guess that's par for the course in US political advertising.

No, Habbibu...that is not what I meant. It is a fact (check with any nurse or pediatrician) that after you have had a child your hormones make you quite susceptible to having another. Your fertility chances go up for lack of a better words.

UnquietDad · 06/09/2008 15:58

No, Bush genuinely is dim.

Ronald Reagan, on live radio in 1984, declared as a joke: ?My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.? That?s what you get for putting an actor in the White House. At the time we had but one reassuring thought ? we knew that this was as frightening, as cringeworthy and as stupid as an American President could possibly get.

Mmmmm.

Which just goes to prove Karl Marx?s aphorism that history repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce.

But you said "for the term"! Increased fertility lasts a short while (unfortunately I'm all too aware of this right now), and the rest of your comments still merit further explanation.
