I can't believe people can do that to their own children.

I don't buy the Sun... that's probably why I haven't seen it. Thanks for the correction . Good that something changed as a result.

Justice would be whatever sentence is available to the judge ? obviously in the UK that would be life imprisonment.
We can't do to them what they appear to have done to this poor baby or we are no better than them.

Chandra · 11/02/2005 13:57

Don't worry secur, most of the time is not even worth reading, the best of it is that it can be recycled.

Chandra · 11/02/2005 13:58

No Edam, sadly in the UK is not like that. Though they deserve it surely!

edam · 11/02/2005 14:01

Chandra, think you're confused: I said 'we can't do to them what they appear to have done to this poor baby'. Can't in the sense of it isn't possible and in the sense of it would be morally wrong.
I don't think lynch mobs are a good thing. Although it's tempting to be violent people who commit terrible crimes, it's very dangerous.

edam, I was refering to you saying that in the UK it would be life imprisonement. Wish it were because the damage they've inflicted and the highly likely possibility they would do it again (talikg about the general paedophile). But unfortunately, law is rather considerate to their "rights". It's just sickening

Chandra · 11/02/2005 14:08

yep. just outside the walls.

suzywong · 11/02/2005 14:10

that's what I mean, where is the law effective enough to prevent re-offense and be an effective deterrent

Here in W.A. a cop was caught in a huge paedo raid and found with 900 awful videos. He will be walking free in 15 months and the chief commissioner of police ofr the state says it's worse for a copper to be in prison than a member of the general public.

I do wonder what on earth the judicial system is thinking of when they give light sentences to men who abuse women and children, or who have huge collections of child pornography. Crimes against property are more severely punished - logically if you want to seriously break the law beating your wife or child or assaulting someone will be your best bet. Bank robbers get 10, 15, 20 years, rapists far less. Of course bank robbers threaten violence and put staff in fear, but shouldn't actual violence against people be at least as severely punished?
