Just put the news on (ITV) and they are covering the prosecution case of the 9 men in the drugging and rape trial where the husband advertised his wife online. It's hard not to feel absolute despair at the way women are treated and wonder about the countless crimes of sexual violence that are never reported as well as the ones that are which don't make it to court or result in a prosecution.

It’s very chilling, very depressing.

Picoloangel · Yesterday 17:14

I remember at the time of the Pelicot trial there was another horrible manslaughter trial in this country of a young vulnerable woman who was orally raped whilst practically unconscious and died.
There is another case somewhere else in Europe of a woman drugged by her husband who died. It’s all so depressing and makes me really fear for my 16 yo DD. How in 2026 is all of this still happening?

SpottyAlpaca · Yesterday 17:17

8 men on the jury, which explains why Brand’s barrister was pushing the ‘why would a guy who has women queuing up to shag him need to rape anyone?’ angle in his summing up.

Presumably most, if not, all of those male jurors will have found it considerably more difficult than Brand to find willing sexual partners so will be asking themselves exactly that question.

I’m increasingly pessimistic about the chances of him being convicted, sadly. I very much hope I’m wrong.

It would take someone (likely one of the female jurors) effectively to take on the mantle from Riel Karmy-Jones and continue expounding prosecution arguments and debunking rape myths.

A mammoth task - and, knowing the intellectual arrogance of many men, despite scant reason for such arrogance (even some with whom I have worked and have advised as the “expert in the room”) I’m afraid I do not hold out a great deal of hope.

That’s without even starting on culturally-ingrained misogyny.

Wilsonthedog · Yesterday 17:28

I think they'd have had more success at getting a guilty verdict if they'd read extracts from his book about what he did to his childhood dog and gerbils. Men care about animals more than they do about women, and that would certainly show his sadism.

Piglet89 · Yesterday 17:34

Animal cruelty;
Expelled from school at 15 for punching a teacher; and
A total nightmare to work with.

And this is tip of the iceberg stuff. I mean, he doesn’t sound like an all-round good egg, does he?

i don’t know, will depend on so much - age, sexuality, experiences, friendships - all those things that shape our views of the world. I know just as many women as men who hold the same tired views about this. Conversely through my sons I’ve met many seemingly enlightened young men. I’m hopeful.

blankittyblank · Yesterday 17:49

I've just seen the list of questions they need to answer - where they have to say yes or no to a couple of questions for each count. Looking at those questions I can't see everyone saying yes to both parts of each count, so I suspect he'll be not guilty. Which has depressed me.

It's the '22 questions for the jury to consider' section - https://news.sky.com/story/russell-brand-trial-live-updates-rape-sexual-assault-indecent-court-13592674

FedUpFeminist · Yesterday 17:55

I really think a lot will depend on how RB presented in court . I’d be interested to know from people who were there.

Appalonia · Yesterday 17:57

I know a guy who is a big RB fan and he is convinced that it's all a conspiracy by the deep state. I really hope that there aren't too many men on the jury who hold similar views...

If he is found not guilty that view point will more than likely go mainstream and Brand himself will be promoting it on his YouTube channel doutless saying how "the elite" plotted his downfall because he is a "truth teller"

Dexternight · Yesterday 18:03

RB has bought a body double to court.😂

Russell Brand 🤢🤮 - crunch time
DailyEnergyCrisis · Yesterday 18:33

My hope was totally faded last evening but the judge seemingly has balanced things a little today. Better chance in the uk of a conviction at least where the jury is hopefully less likely to buy the ‘finding Jesus’ grift. It still feels like a long shot though.
As an aside I do thankfully know many men who would convict on the evidence.

Or women…

BlackBirdInFlight · Yesterday 18:55

Juries with women on are just as likely not to find guilty as those with men.

Dexternight · Yesterday 18:58

LB is sticking with him because he has money.
Considerably more money than she has.
More money than her father has or her sister.

Sadly, money talks.

All the rest is BS.

TFImBackIn · Yesterday 18:58

I don't usually watch TikTok but saw a woman on there really ranting about one of the women in this case - RB had tried to drag her into the toilet and the woman was saying she was being really unreasonable. She got so het up about it - god help the victims if someone like that is on the jury.

Sosorryaboutthis · Yesterday 19:04

I want him to be found guilty if he is guilty. I want him to be found not guilty if he isn't guilty. This is because unlike many people on this thread, I have no idea if he is guilty or not. May justice prevail.

Specifically contradicting the judges direction to the jury that the delay does not indicate the complainants are lying

'Massive 20-year delay' in reporting allegations supports Brand's innocence, court told
Ian Winter KC says: "Not one of the complainants reported these allegations to the police at the time."
He tells the jury: "If a wrong has been done to you, you are entitled to have it investigated… The best moment you have of achieving a conviction is at that time, when the evidence is at its freshest."
He suggests to the jury: "It doesn't get better sticking a massive 20-year delay into the situation, does it?"
Winter says: "The absence of a complaint just supports the defence's position."

Wonder if it would be the same quotes if jimmy savile was on trial, 20years late blah blah..defence talk g out of his butt hole. Lock up the slime ball, he’s revolting to look at never mind when he opens his cake hole. Sorry Ive never liked the person known as R Brand.

Yes.
Have only found this after seeing the thread on trending.
If found guilty - punish.
If not - he should be able to live his life with his family.

Defence was crap (“it was only three rapes and thousands of others haven’t reported him raping them yet, well to the police anyway, you must ignore the dispatches ones”) so feeling quite hopeful about the verdict despite everything…
I stumbled on this video earlier
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dRJyNzakeHg&pp=ygUdUnVzc2VsbCBicmFuZCBpcnJpdGF0aW5nIHdpZmU%3D
this guy commentates on the Brands’ insufferable Sunday services. Just cracked me up, and felt sort of like a relief to hear someone else seeing the same shit I’ve been seeing.
also this is a fascinating one
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o2phdZWNLvo
in which Russell brand describes how he stormed off from his tiny children because they weren’t praying properly (?!) and we learn Laura had to “deal with it”, and also Laura homeschools them….
Cult. Cult. Cult!

(posted first on the old thread by accident, meant to post it here!)

Thank you so much for posting these links. I have just watched them both. Never seen this guy before but he is bloody brilliant and he can completely see through Brand.
Enjoyed reading the comments about Brand from people underneath his videos too.
I'm basically happy if I see someone ripping the piss out of this maniac.

ErinBell01 · Yesterday 19:47

Winter also pointed out the length of time the women took to report - and that they didn't scream or fight back. I thought we'd got past that sort of misogyny

roobyred · Yesterday 20:15

@Dexternight I think that’s also deliberate because part of the defence’s argument was that it may not have been RB because she got the height wrong.

That comment smacked of desperation to me - about the height. Totally daft thing to say. Clutching at straws.
