I think the point went over your head.

Not in the slightest. I honestly don't know why you are arguing this. Some women make up allegations. That is a fact. I'm not saying these women have - I know nothing about RB and don't want to

From what I read she never had a chance to say no, she was having sex and then she was being anally raped, there was no asking in between. She was crying, begging him to stop and he didn’t, she was terrified. I don’t know if you’re trying to be argumentative or are just abit uneducated but it’s not surprising at all that she didn’t kick/punch/fight.
This reaction is very common. Have you ever seen a mouse freeze when a cat has caught it, it’s not that the mouse wants to be still, it’s a built in survival instinct, humans can react the same.
Im pretty sure it’s documented that women in this situation are more likely to be killed when they fight back.

The problem I think a jury would maybe have with this is how you go from consensual sex to rape in a few minutes. I agree it's rape but again how can it be proven? The struggle and crying will be obviously be denied by Brand and how can you prove otherwise. It think the defence is going to portray these events as either false or a way to repackage regretful sex. The defence could say that the anal part started with some sort of consent and the tears and struggle only occurred when the event became too uncomfortable.....again unpalatable but I don't know if a jury will be prepared to imprison someone over events whoch can't be determined to be true or open to interpretation.

@KeepPumping it wasn’t laughed out of court at all - she testified last week - and his friend backed her up that something had happened - RB had stated he’d gone too far and wanted to leave town

it was robust testimony

And the reason @KeepPumping gave for it being laughed out of court - that RB was known to be a ‘revolving cock’ - is totally factually incorrect as he wasn’t known at all, and shows up the fact that the poster isn’t even following the trial.

Agree

And surely between any respectable man and his partner, a discussion needs to take place before anal happens?

Of course it does. And I’m really hoping, back in the real world, that jury gets it. I think on the anal sex point, they will. Most people realise it’s on another level. In a weird way, I think men realise that even more than women. They’re the ones who’ve tried it on and been refused.

I don’t know, the CPS must have decided that they had a good chance at getting a conviction or they wouldn’t have changed him. I think the main evidence so far has been.. 6 women all with similar stories, a friend who said RB said “we need to get going, I took it to far with a girl last night, a text from RB to one of the victims, apologising for in her words treating her like an animal. For all we know there is more evidence, I hope so anyway. In my trial they had physical evidence but they also used old therapy notes and a diary that id kept at the time, they also called a friend of mine to the stand who id confided in. It might all look circumstantial but it does build a picture and can be used as evidence.

Some humans can act like that some don"t, I know women who have knocked their partner senseless with a golf club when they were having a "domestic".

But that’s with a golf club. Is this some kind of sick joke? How is it conceivably relevant to someone being anally raped? I think you’re just being offensive now, with glib, irrelevant remarks about a serious subject.

Anyway, any reply for me to my post of 20.32?

With respect (not much, actually), what are you on about? How do you go from consensual to rape in a few minutes? By switching from vaginal to anal, obviously! I mean it’s almost the classic example of how you might teach criminal law students how consensual sex can become rape, it’s so obvious. I mean I’m not saying case proved, we haven’t heard it all yet, but your question is, er, a bit silly.

And what’s all this about her maybe only crying when it became uncomfortable? There’s no indication I don’t think that that’s what the defence will say. I think if he starts accepting that she cried he’s pretty fucked, unless he then stopped. Because otherwise, that also would be rape.

Let’s hope the jury are not like you, and actually keep a close eye on the evidence instead of all this ‘but it could have just been this…’ speculative rubbish.

I hope there is more evidence as I think there is too much reliant on personal testimony without witnesses. Personally I feel a shit not defence barrister who Brand has obviously employed will create doubt.

I agree it's rape but proof of events in such a circumstance is going to be very difficult to prove. How do you prove someone was crying 20 years ago?

GarlicEverything · 20/10/2026 04:32

KeepPumping · 19/10/2026 18:10

Once you are in bed with someone fucking, it is very hard to say I didn"t consent to this or that, unless you are black and blue with bruises and they have obviously forced you into something it just isn"t provable, most fit young women could kick and scratch or push a bloke off them, and most blokes would take the hint at this point, for it to go further at that point the bloke would need to be quite violent or have a weapon, or have the fear of future physical attack if they were living together as a psychological weapon.

You haven't thought about the mechanics. Both my husbands raped me anally, leaving injuries. You're face down with a man's full weight pressing on you - and is dick is in your bum.

I'm pretty good at getting out of physically dangerous situations: XH1 strangled me before I left; I realised he was actually killing me and stuck my thumbs in his eyes. But on both those other occasions, I was pinned down and the only possible action would've been to buck hard against his weight. Which would've forced him further inside and caused incredible pain, probably devastating injury. And still not succeeded in getting him off!

I expect you can understand why I'm pissed off by throwaway remarks about bumsex and particularly bum rape. Use your brains.

"Are you telling me that she was a liar? "

Pardon? I said not all women "freeze" and posted a video of a woman not freezing, what part of that is not straightforward?

Then you were refuting an assertion no-one had made.

How stupid.

Most sex is going to be "personal testimony without witnesses" ffs. Most people don't' have their sexual encounters witnessed. This has always been the difficulty with rape trials.

What they do have is a) physical records and police reports IF the victim reported it, b) contemporaneous accounts from other people around at the time and witnesses to the interactions beforehand and c) any known patterns of behaviour by the potential perpetrator.

Yeah, it's like @mids2019 @KeepPumping (appropriate handle) and the other one operate to Shariah law. No rape unless there are two independent witnesses!

He used a bible as a prop in an earlier court appearance but was called out by Piers Morgan. The video clip is painful to watch as it becomes obvious that the carefully marked pages were … a charade?

Edit. I dont know why the link doesnt show the thumbnail picture. Google “Russel Brand reads the bible Piers Morgan youtube”/

It was really cringe and why does he have to wear low cut vests all the time. He makes me want to throw up 😫

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 20/10/2026 06:39

For a rape charge there seems to be quite a lot of evidence. Most of us don’t have sex with other people present do they 🙈? Really would be zero prosecution of rape if you require a third party witness of it.

There are some absolute dimwits on this thread far below the usual standard of posting. I’m assuming visiting misogynists.

If girls / women were attracted to him, I can only assume they had very low self esteem..

Yeah, he doesnt have anything good going for him even when he was popular. He's vile, hairy blimey and greasy. And going round with plunging neckline vests or unbuttoned shirts, like hes some dishy hunk.

If I remember correctly, he would say on stage, now just because im a celebrity doesnt mean you cant sh&g me.
please get your sick buckets at the ready!!!
and would say into the microphone 🎤 ladies form a queue backstage for sex with me.
And i kid you not several times there would be a queue of women in an orderly queue standing like school children lining up for assembly outside his dressing room waiting for their turn!!!!! Whilst I presume listening while the current one was in....it just beggars belief!!!!

He is a lesson in this:

He looks repugnant. He's always been creepy. And he is.

Actually to have sex with a woman then physically dominate her, 'flip her over', put her on all fours and penetrate her anally, while she screams and begs for him to stop, and then afterwards he says 'clean up the mess you've made' - of 'blood, semen and faeces' - how can we even find words to describe such a devil.

No punishment is too bad for him.

That is horrific.

I never liked Brand, even at the height of his popularity. He's always come across as arrogant. I have always thought he looked scruffy and in need of a good scrub!

I see that Brand has found God; oldest trick in the book that one, finding religion when charged with a crime or whilst in prison.

Holding bible pages open and a crucifix in his hand is all cringe.

hang him hang him we the mumsnet jury have convicted him- no need for trial, eh?
i very much doubt he's admitted to some of the more graphic stuff people have outlined here- but hey he's got creepy vibes hasnt he, "that's enough for us"
you really are the witch burners of yore- you're absolutely loving this aren't you

I wonder how consistent you are with men from more fashionable demographics- men who committed mass rape in Rotherham for years,
men in dresses actually entering female spaces- hope you're as vocal about them- given there's no nuance that such men are a danger to women

Are you alright upstairs?

In a professional court setting , you should be dressed accordingly.
I was watching judge judy where she has a go at people for coming in with belly tops and shorts. One guy came in with at least 4 buttons undone. Judge judy made him do every single one and he kept repeating wow with embarrassment when she said keep going, now the other one, what do you think youre here for, an audition?? 😄

It’s easy to forget how fêted he was, how he pulled in big crowds and shifted 10 s of 1000s of books with his gibberish. A combination of good looks, faux rebelliousness and the human need to “ follow” certain charismatic persons, no matter how hollow their beliefs and pronouncements I guess. He wasn’t the first, he won’t be the last.

Good looks? He's revolting and thats before all this came about. I always thought of him as chavvy and slimey.

Absolutely on another level. 💯

No doubt.
Consent for anal sex would be most definitely sought.

Unless abusive themselves, every man (and woman) knows that this is something you don't just attempt without consent.

The only question is, did she agree? THAT'S the difficult part.

Nobody, but nobody, who is half reasonable is going to say, 'oh well she had PIV sex with him willingly so obviously anal sex was OK with her.'

You need not hope, it's a given.

See this does get on my nerves a bit.
You don't fancy him, nor did I but there's no denying that he was regarded as hot back in the day.

Saying he wasn't regarded as sexy is simply untrue.

He had that nihilistic, generation X charm about him that's really hard to explain to people who weren't young at the time.

I am almost exactly the same age as him. I remember.

Maybe you remember too and have some idea of what I'm getting at. I don't know.
