Yes theres been a lot made of the woman apparently making all this up for money. What money exactly? Where from?

As far as I aware any victim of crime can claim compensation for injuries/mental or physical after trial. In the same way the CPS decide to prosecute with evidence, compensation is paid after they look at the evidence. You have to give permission to look at all of the police reports, therapy notes, medical records, it took over a year for me. Nobody is getting money for falsely accusing men of rape.

Its not very much. Our service users usually have CICA, its not a lot.

I know, definitely not worth committing a crime yourself by making false accusations of rape. I don’t know why some people are convinced that is what’s happening here, nuts.

thats bad luck for those men. They shouldn’t have put themselves in a position where they could be accused

How incredibly judgemental to assume that they did

Just come back to the thread and boy the level of discussion is going downhill. Most women could physically fight off a man intent on raping them? So there is no real rape unless there are injuries is basically what that poster is saying. I despair. Of course someone of RB’s strength could easily overpower. That first victim was 6,5 stone!

ItalianChips · 19/10/2026 19:50

Through telling their story in the papers, through doing TV interviews, through getting a book published about the incident and their fight for justice, through having their online profile raised by being involved with the case etc. etc.

They’ve all chosen to remain anonymous.

Not what I said, I said most men would stop if a woman was screaming and punching and kicking, I didn"t say most women could overpower a man.

If he lives in the U.S and YouTube is registered "offshore" maybe they don"t have jurisdiction to stop him? Or maybe they know the case is a pile of nonsense and don"t really care?

The statement - "they were talking about a project she was working on and as the bar was closing and she wanted to carry on the chat she invited him to her room. She thought it was safe as she believed he was gay. " - will be laughed out of court, by that point his reputation as a revolving cock was well known, but if he did what is claimed then that is very bad predatory behaviour that needs punished, or will he just claim that she agreed/initiated sex? Did she report this at the time, how long ago did it happen? The problem with statements like "We were drunk in a hotel room 25 years ago and he raped me" is that he can just say "We were drunk in a hotel room 25 years ago and she jumped on top of me" No judge or jury is going to find him guilty.

It won't "be laughed out of court" at all.

If I was on the jury I wouldn't be laughing about it. It's entirely believable. And no, he wasn't known for that back then. It was 1999.

Sounds like you're living in about that era, tbh. Or perhaps 20 years earlier. Times have moved on. As has understanding about consent.

Ok, he must be guilty, still confused by the 30 year wait though, do they have entertainment business careers?

Tinydanceer · 19/10/2026 20:13

@KeepPumping it wasn’t laughed out of court at all - she testified last week - and his friend backed her up that something had happened - RB had stated he’d gone too far and wanted to leave town

it was robust testimony

The wait was because she didn’t report it at the time, decided to try to put it behind her, and had no idea there would be a string of victims behind her. She thought she was the only one. It was only once the documentary came out, that she find out that this was a pattern. After the documentary, she confided in a friend, who encouraged her to come forward.

Not disimilar to Jimmy Saville. Many victims thought it was only them, and once many started coming forward, others came forward. Even 40 years later.

Most decent people really don't find this "confusing" at all. It's not difficult. Rape is traumatic. Not something you've had to worry about happening to you personally, I take it. And given that, you might want to pipe down and listen to those it happens most to.

Because many women this happens to try to block it out. Again, though, as you're clearly a misogynist man who thinks women are "asking for it" (few dodgy accusations in your past, pal?) They think nobody will believe them (oh, and here you are). They just want to forget about it. I know far more women who've kept quiet about rapes because they didn't want to be dragged through the courts and judged by knuckle-draggers like you than I do who have reported it. It doesn't mean it didn't happen.

You honestly think all women "freeze" when attacked by a man, don"t be so utterly ridiculous.

Prottttt · 19/10/2026 20:21

One of the most striking things to me as someone following the case, and would almost certainly weigh on my mind as a juror, is the fact that the women came forward after the Channel 4 documentary. There is a definite argument for retrospective reinterpretation, which the defence rightly keeps mentioning in cross-examination.

Not ridiculous at all. As those who actually understand this or have experienced it themselves, a great many do.

Have you ever been in the situation yourself?

Because if you haven't (and I've got to say, I strongly suspect that you won't have) you have precisely zero experience of being subjected to this, and your input is entirely irrelevant and based on ignorance.

Prat.

Many do! I had a friend who was assaulted by a stranger in a busy tube and she froze. She said she couldn’t physically move or scream. Her body wouldn’t let her, and it was horrifying. She never reported it. Are you telling me that she was a liar? What would she have to gain by sharing her story with me in confidence?

Freeze is sometimes called fawn, and it is a very real response.

thebrowncatisback · 19/10/2026 20:23

It baffles me how nobody ever questions the guilt of jimmy saville

he was exposed posthumously and was never tried in court. By those standards, he is an innocent man. Why didnt his victims come forward years ago? Did they come forward to make money?

"Are you telling me that she was a liar? "

Pardon? I said not all women "freeze" and posted a video of a woman not freezing, what part of that is not straightforward?

It took me 5 years to get my criminal injuries compensation. It was yet another hellish experience after the attack, then the trial, then him coming out on licence, running off and breaking the liceence condtions, i will never forget probation phoning me and telling me to get home and stay there as nobody knew where he was. Anyway, back to the compensation, I was intially offered a very low amount because (get this!) I had been sexually assaulted in the past so in the eyes of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority this meant that my trauma was less! I appealed, but the process took years and after being assessed by a clinical psychologist and being given a diagnosis of CPSTD I was awarded a significantly larger amount. Ir was not huge, it was not life changing but it was far better than the original award. I honestly think that they offer the least they can as they know that so many victims of crime are worn down by the whole processs and want tot try to forget. If, god forbid, i was ever attacked again i doubt I would report it, I would turn to family and friends for support and do my best to forget
