My dh takes the BBC as gospel. I take it with a (large) pinch of salt, as I think it has baked-in biases. I value the BBC highly, and think we are lucky to have it, by the way.

I'm interested in how other people view the BBC's reporting.

@EasternStandard ,

‘Ah yes I’m sure Labour are pushing to get more from higher earners on the licence fee or other payment too.’

Shouldn’t taxation be progressive? I believe in progressive taxation. The only issue is that the really wealthy don’t pay their fair share.

I think that the BBC needs to cut back on entertainment and needn’t compete in this space, but a lot of what it does is really important.

‘Given that the BBC has lost fee payers it looks like people don’t value it as much. It shouldn’t be forced.’

Think about BBC News, BBC bitesize etc etc. Also, I think that having something everyone can access is really important for British values and assimilation. I think it would be awful if important British events (Wimbledon for instance) were priced out of most people’s experiences.

I don’t think we are going to agree on this, though!

Yes, but we have some of the most progressive taxation in the world and it has gone far enough to be stifling growth.

One more ratchet on general taxation is not the answer. Let the BBC earn its own way. Everyone can vote with their own wallet.
