Dreadful gruesome vile shock horror story

IPityTheFool · 27/06/2008 17:50

Do you have an interest in these? I'll assume you do, as you've opened this thread.

Should you feel the need to discuss the latest dreadful story with others, many of us would be grateful if you would be a little more euphemistic in your thread titles.

Lose the red tops headlines style titles, please.

Thank you.

You assume a lot. Why not post under your real name?
Thank you.

cyteen · 27/06/2008 17:57

Actually I assumed this would be a point-making or point-scoring thread of exactly the type it's turned out to be.

I rule, you suck

Whoever you are, you're up your own arse, that's for sure.

Greyriverside · 27/06/2008 19:07

I guessed what it was because of the fuss the other day. "don't put titles that refer to details of news items that might make my poor tummy go all fluttery"

I don't really care and would agree anyway to be kind, but feel a little concerned that adults seem so vulnerable these days.

Have times changed? Did I have an unusually hard life or has the fad of overprotecting kids now produced a generation of 'adults' emotionally unprepared to deal with the real world?

charmkin · 27/06/2008 19:08

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2008 19:12

no there is another nasty one today, I agree with the OP actually

cyteen · 27/06/2008 19:14

Thing is though, some stories are so grim that there is no 'appropriate' or non-upsetting way to describe them. Either people don't link to them at all (and there is an argument for this, especially when the purpose just seems to be to get loads of people going "terrible awful string 'em up ") or they title them as they appear on news websites.

MrsSprat · 27/06/2008 19:15

I totally agree, I wish 'In the News' was used to discuss thought-provoking stuff (oh and hey, the occasionaly sleb nonsense). However, there seems to be a prurient desire to rake over sadist activities du jour. Foul though they are, I find this horrifying.

Perhaps a new board 'In the News: Ghouls' would satisfy the needs of those who wish to discuss the latest child murder in horrific detail.

Greyriverside · 27/06/2008 19:15

If you name them "bad news story" then you will get duplicates since no one will know it was already posted.

If they bother you then why not block all MN news, but set up VCR to record CBBC news daily roundup which should be safe enough.

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2008 19:16

babysitter abuse case?

seems to sum up the latest one quite well

it's the details that are unnecessary and well, tacky IMO

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2008 19:17

(cyteen sorry for hijack - have sent skirt AT LAST - hope it arrives safely)

Greyriverside · 27/06/2008 19:18

I partly agree there Franny, but you might have to say "babysitter abuse case #1" the way things are these days

Flamesparrow · 27/06/2008 19:18

love cod's conversaion there

cyteen · 27/06/2008 19:19

(F&Z - am very ashamed, completely forgot to let you know it has arrived and I am very happy Sorry for my lameness there!)
