I watched Laura Kuenssberg’s programme earlier. She interviewed the archbishop of Westminster, Labour MP Miatta Fahnbulleh and Reform member Nadim Zahawi .

Needless to say the first topic up for discussion was the murder of Anne Widdicombe. The archbishop obviously dressed in his clerical clothes, Fahnbulleh was dressed in a respectful black. And Anne Widdicombe’s former colleague in both Conservative Party and Reform was sitting there in a football shirt.

The man is an utter tool !

I can't stand him but, unlike the other two, he was her close friend and he can dress as he damn well likes. As if she would have cared.

Very odd that this is what's bothered you about reactions to Ann Widdecombe's murder enough to start a thread, rather than some of the abhorrent comments about her, including by people who claim to be her friend, like Adam Boulton.

Apart from anything else, it doesn't even make a lot of sense: the Archbishop of Westminster was presumably wearing black because he's the AB of W.
The Labour MP, well who knows - but I'd be surprised if she was in mourning clothes for a woman who was at the opposite end of the political spectrum from her. Does she make a habit of wearing black every time someone famous dies?

And by your logic, shouldn't Laura Kuenssberg also have been wearing black? Why was bright pink ok for the program presenter, but black appropriate/meaningful for a random MP who probably didn't even know Ann Widdecombe personally, since they wouldn't have been MPs at the same time? I expect LK has met her more often than Miatta Fahnbulleh has.

Ann, most probably, would either have done an eye-roll and carried on, or, it wouldn’t have bothered her in the slightest.

EasternStandard · 12/07/2026 15:18

I doubt the Labour MP was wearing black due to that and there’s way worse comments out there, as pp said Adam Boulton and other people online.

What a strange thread. He was actually her friend and she wouldn’t have cared what he was wearing
