BBC News - Murder suspect had leave to remain, say police

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czrx4mj18gyo

I have seen this today, and the circumstances seem very close to a post that was raised earlier in the week. It may be completely unrelated.

It's so sad. That poor little girl.

General View of Syward Place in Chertsey on the junction of Bell Bridge Road and Pyrcroft Road.

Man charged with murder of Chertsey girl, 2, had leave to remain, say police

French national Kevin Kerjean was granted leave to remain in the UK in 2021, extended until 2031.

Why do you care?

I don’t quite understand - do you mean were people talking about this case without naming names? If so, yes that’s correct, they were discussing what ‘French national’ meant ie is it actually French or not.

@DeftGoldHedgehog the OP is discussing News in the News section. I imagine she cares, if she didn’t she’d be posting about clothes in the clothes section. Or games in the games section.

What's your point?

Still waiting to hear what the no doubt xenophobic or racist point of the post is.

Is she saying all those with leave to remain can't be trusted? That French people shouldn't be allowed to live in the UK?

So fucking tired of reading racism on here, it is totally unacceptable.

That other thread was terrible, started by someone who had vast majority of his/her posts deleted this morning.

If you are from, say, the Central African Republic, by birth and ethnicity, are you French?

If you have lived in France for a long time and it would be regarded as your primary place of residence through your life then yes, you would be regarded as a French national. Perhaps your parents, or one of them is French by citizenship.

Interesting choice of the word “ethnicity” in relation to the CAR. You do realise that no country has only one ethnicity?

Twirlywirly25 · 29/06/2026 07:35

Well it seems to be the way the article is written. There wasn't intended to be any racism involved. But at the end of the day a 2 year old has died. The previous thread I was concerned about there was a 2 year old involved and a boyfriend who was a foreign national (It did not mention which nationality).

And actually, all the "racist" comments only further prove the point that bad things can happen if people are too scared to call out on things for fear of being called racist.

My concern was that the little girl that died could have been connected to the earlier post - where they had contacted social services. Then low and behold 2 days later a child in similar circumstances has died.

I'm seeing this on other threads and don't understand it.

People expressing shock, anger, sympathy, disgust etc, in this case about a two year old girl being raped and murdered, and others jump on them to accuse them of racism.

EasternStandard · 30/06/2026 12:47

It’s a horrific case. There seems to be little on it.

Maybe because the OP flags the suspect's immigration status in her thread title, and not her sorrow and concern about the victim?
